I did also succeed a couple of times at +140. And I was surprised as well to get Navarra into an alliance with only +45.

I too noticed that the AI doesn't give military access too easily, it's far harder even with good relations than in EU2. However I find it a nice feature - it was irritating to see most minors give access to basically everyone. Moreover, it makes sense historically - no country was happy to let another one's troops on its territory.

Speaking about military access, why shouldn't I be able to offer the English (for example) to be able to walk through my country? You shouldn't have to ask in order to get military access, they (as in the country offering MA) might just want to give it to you.

True, it's more difficult than in EUIII, but also more logical: MA would be a major infringment on State sovereignty at that time (and even today), so it's no wonder it's hard to obtain during peace time.

I was pissed off at this, until I realized my navy actually mattered now!
It makes sense, original EU2 (and even more so EU3) could just as well have gone the way of CK and automatically give military access, because it was so easy to get anyway.
Now, forcing Military access through war is actually worth it (in some cases at least)

IRL countries had no problems giving MA to nations going on the crusade.

problem is its very plastic (cant think of word, begins with A) game notion that should be replaced

armies didn't do this, especially in the big wars against France or the emperor

you think gustav adolf asked permission to march thru germany???

seems a good opportunity to replace it with a better system imo...

I would think of this issue mostly as of a matter of gameplay, than as of the matter of realism. IMO granting of MA should not be automatic or 100% controllable by a player, else the feature loses its charm and power of balancing the diplomacy in game (considering that it's money free).

It was far more common to give countries naval access in those times IMO. The two things should be separated. Normally I only ask for MA to be able to use their ports anyway.
