I start out in the Duchy of Barcelona and the King of Aragon raises his crown authority and suddenly I can't start knocking off my other fellow vassals!!!!

This is unbelievably stupid....if I am not under the authority of Aragon then his damn Crown Laws shouldn't affect me.

Is there a mod to correct this?

If not could somebody help me change it so that if you're not under your de jure liege then his crown laws dont affect you?

This mechanic isn't moddable, it's hard-coded.

Can anyone provide a reasonable justification for this mechanic though? Seems a bit silly...
It's to model having several titles under different authorities. It would be possible at the time to be a Duke of France AND a Duke of England so you would have two lieges (the King of France and the King of England).

it is really silly. no wonder Barcelona keeps getting destroyed in my games. Bc Aragon ups its CA then Barcelona keeps being weak and fairly quickly cant expand once they hit High.

It is really incredibly dumb I shouldn't be barred from expanding bc of some dumbass in Aragon. He's freakin' Aragon in 1066 he will get smashed pretty quickly. At least I hope so

Higher Crown Authority being instigated by Aragon actually helps Barcelona, because Barcelona gets all the benefits (higher levies, vassals can't fight wars, etc), but isn't a vassal of the King of Aragon, so he can still fight his own wars.

Barcelona dies because it gets dog piled on by Muslims and isn't Jimena, so he isn't part of the super alliance.

After William the Conqueror conquered England, he was an independent ruler in his role as King of England, but he still answered to the French King as Duke of Normandy. This mechanic exists to represent such situations.

The king of Aragon is de jure the ruler of your land wether you like it or not. If you don't like it then knock off the ruler. There should be a decision to break the ties if its not in game. I know there is drifting but I don't think the byzantines should be deciding the laws in the kingdom of sicily over a hundred years if hes powerless there.
