Had that happen when I lost 2 old kings (starting Songhai ruler + heir) while sieging (-4), got 2 more -stab events, had to core a bunch of provinces, so I just stayed at -3 for 3-4 years since I was in regency for 14 or so years and because fuck you game. I even got one more -stab event, thankfully it didn't cost me anything.
