Next on the to-do list:

1. Overhaul the mass transit system

Bus depot locations will be reassessed and bus terminals will be decentralized as the city grows. This will also mean overhauling routes. Studies for elevated monorails or subways will be considered as well.

2. Complete the beltway

Currently, the beltway encompasses the southern half of the city with a lot of space to fill in. When the northern half is finished, more land for development will open and will have a full bypass.

3. Reconfigure the international airport complex

A reconfiguration will make it more intermodal. Bus routes will take visitors to Campus Martius, different tourist areas, and allow for quicker transfer between that and the regional airport.

How far apart should bus lines and stops be in the game?

I have not been on here in a few months, but the city of Wayne is showing some progress. I expanded south of the Campus Martius area to an area called "Madison Heights." The feature is a triple-circle with a park in the middle.

The first ring is a high-density commericial area whiel the second ring is high density residential:

After some development, the district is up and running and I started to expand the Olympia district, which is for leisure. I noticed that the main interchange between Campus Martius and Madison Heights was consistently backed up, so I raised a cross road on John R to an overpass. That relieved the traffic some, so I made a UK-style roundabout interchange, which freed it up.

At this point, I am expanding west into areas I call "Southfield" and "Willow Run." I found that some roads made a nice convergence point for a square, which will be the main feature. The Southfield district will have another central bus terminal that will service the southwest portion of Wayne. The main feature here will be an office complex.

Here is a zoom on the main Southfield roads along with a roadway leading to the future Willow Run region:

Last, but not least, the future site of Willow Run Regional Airport:

Plans for the future involve:
Completing the beltway system
Developing the ore in the NE sections (and finally learning about industrial specializations)
Learning how to use rail for freight
Optimize bus routes

The beltway is no complete!
Screenshot 53.png

I have pleans to fill in the west side with smaller development, and agricultural section, and a technological university in honor of the Green Cities expac. The east portion of the city will have mining and the north will have lumber. The mass transit will undergo another overhaul as trams will be introduced on a much larger scale. There are four bus terminals in the city and land is laid out for a third airport. Landfills are also going to be replaced by recycling centers.

Great work on Wayne! I like how you're taking your time and considering effectiveness and realism. It's looking good - can't wait to see it grow some more. One question. Why make your own intersections when some great ones already exist in the workshop? I understand if you don't want to use mods (although just barely as I use 25+) because of savegame compatibility in the future; but why not get a few custom assets? For example, see the 4 way cloverleaf and the 3 way highway interchanges in the screenshot. They are easy to plop, and since they function as one piece of road (when placing) it can be raised or lowered in unison (actually maybe just raised) like a roundabout. Once placed, you can treat it as individual segments of road, and upgrade, rearrange or bulldoze snips as necessary. (Cloverleaf at bottom left, 3 way at bottom right - may have to scroll)

I was working on a New York City - Manhattan map, and I was not aiming for a recreation. I just thought it was interesting topography and highways. 500k people later, I open up large search engine maps function, and discover I've been building entirely on the New Jersey side of things, mainly Jersey City and Bayonne. Oh well ! I was building on the map's Ellis Island (not knowing what it actually was) when I got the urge to figure out where I was at in real life. Here are a couple of examples, for inspiration and sharing; not to hijack your thread whatsoever.

Wayne has been growing. There is more I would like to do with the city but I am at the point where I need to put it on hold for a while. The latest additions are a technological universty and the Space Elevator monument.
Screenshot 64.png

I have a challenge. I would like to improve traffic flow at the international airport by having direct freeway access. Here is the area around it:
Screenshot 66.png

When I return to Wayne, I will have a lot of revisions to do. The bus system is going to require a significant overhaul and I feel guilty for even thinking about revising some districts. I have already started on my next city. The cold temperatures inspired me. I may also need help from some Francophones on this board. Additionally, there will be more open spaces.

Nice vanilla one!

Love the firs picture of your last update. It is pretty!

Good luck with the traffic and the mass transit system! It is always a hard one to change or fix, so I know how you feel.
