Postcolonialism, aristocracy and national identity in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes works, Ken Bruen's Jack Taylor novels and possibly some other detectives, like Poe's Auguste Dupin, Chandler's novels, etc.
I don't envy you. The first thing I did after finishing my MA was to go out and buy a trashy sci-fi novel. Don't get me wrong, thrashing out a piece on the influence of the American and French revolutions on Romantic poetry is one thing, but after four years of it it's a nice release to be able to read about laser guns and spaceships
Iain Wilson: Interesting. One of my fellow TAs last year did her thesis on German Romantic poetry. I remember nothing of what her take was, though. Then again, the most bizzare thesis last year was the one on Xena: Warrior Princess.
