I wonder what sort of political intrigue is going on in the Reich? Everyone seems ready to pounce and stab each other in the back. Naval officers excepting, of course. :D

Oops, I thought you said Light CRUSIER....

CVL's give you a positioning bonus, allowing all of your ships, including screens to get within firing range during a battle. They are almost a cheat they work so well, but I think it would be worth it to build a few.

They are also decent at ASW.

"Commander, we need more U-Boats!" :( :p

That, was certainly a tough loss for you I must imagine. Now it's time to unleash fury upon the Allies, who either seem to be better at protecting their convoys as the tonnage being sunk is less and less, or the Allies (mainly British Merchant Fleet) are running low on convoys. Now, onwards to Svedlorsk and finish the war against the Communist Internationale!

Paranoid Tsar isn't using the beta patch. He's still playing Armageddon 1.2. CVLs are very useful for him.
I stand corrected. In that case he should absolutely build CVL's.

Jeez, what's with Himmler now. Looks like some people have way too much free time on their hands. Not the KM commanders obviously, they are busy kicking some allied naval butts.

I'm not a SS person, but a bunch of SS for a BB, a CVL, 2 CAs and some minor garbage is a fair deal in my book.

Your Ministry of Information proudly presents...

Heroes of the Fatherland

Victory in Russia!

The hostilities are officially over as the final handful of Bolshevik hardliners emerged from their holes, naked, starving, frozen and pleading for food and vodka. Russia has been divided into two halves with the remaining Communist fanatics isolated in Siberia where they can harmlessly apply their failed, godless ideas. The other half will provide our much needed living space that will allow the noble German people to reach their full potential. The dragon of Marxism has been slain!

staub.jpg

Ameri-Can't!

The only remaining aggressors in the west have begun their death rattle as a president who is seriously diseased in both body and mind has seen fit to use Morocco as a giant graveyard for America's youth. With Britain losing India and Africa, starving and in full-blown civil war the United States is now feeling the full force of our righteous fury! If their feckless efforts to control a few miles of sand are any indication, there won't be any problem defeating them!

We Rule the Seas!

The Kriegsmarine has literally covered the floor of the Atlantic with inferior Allied ships! In every conflict our heroic navy has completely out-classed the enemy and these conflicts are becoming less and less frequent as the American industrial machine grinds to a halt with sand in its gears! It appears the average soft, pleasure-seeking American has little interest in the sacrifices of war. Massive strikes have already been reported and we also have reliable reports that drafted soldiers are intentionally wounding themselves to avoid their inevitable defeat at our hands!

------------------------------------------------------------

43sinkings.jpg

Where are all those Carriers hiding?

In some respects it was a slow couple of months for the Kriegsmarine, with the big news being the land victory in the east. Operation Huginn was initiated, deploying our Carrier force to the Central Atlantic to hunt Allied fleets. The result was several small engagements, but no big battle that I was hoping for. Still, I would think the USN is eventually going to be forced to take action against our control of the Atlantic.

northafricapatton.jpg

We're not holding our positions

The slow campaign in Morocco is continuing along a fairly static front. Our Marines have been deployed there and were able to assist in taking and holding Marrakech. Elsewhere, the 9th Marines "Fenrir" and 10th Marines "Vandals" are ready to see action. With our victorious forces freed up in the east major operations in Africa are coming soon.

moretransports.jpg

The hunt

sunktransports.jpg

The kill

We're continuing to attempt to disrupt the flow of men and supplies to Morocco with some success. The USN seems to have a nearly endless supply of transport ships, however. If they're building those instead of Carriers, it's a fair trade.

Our U-Boat arm sunk 60 convoy ships in two months, but the big news is the arrival of the new Walter models. Heavy production was immediately authorized with an eye on applying relentless pressure on Britain and America and paving the way for ultimate victory.

walterboats.jpg

The new weapon

The defeat of the Soviets was followed by a formal alliance with Japan, further adding to the might of the world's strongest alliance. We hope to be able to provide at least some support to their efforts in the Pacific, but for now there's business much closer to home to address!

KMS Deutschland

kmsdeutschland.jpg

This Heavy Cruiser has served throughout the war and seen action in several operations. She has the distinction of sinking two enemy Carriers during engagements against the French, a feat no other ship can claim! A reliable workhorse, the Deutschland has done an excellent job as both a defender and attacker.

von Mauser: Don't worry about the mix-up, I still get very confused with CA, CV, CVL, CL, etc. Like my old report cards: too many Cs! Himmler has the potential to cause all sorts of trouble. He's got his own private army and considerable insider access. He's up to no good! ;)

Congratulations on Lieutenant-Commander rank!

Stuyvesant: With my luck the Scharnhorst bunker would be the first target for the A-Bomb. :D Doenitz isn't a politician at all, which is ironic since that seems to be his destiny, both historically and in this AAR.

Thanks for the Light Carrier information. I probably won't use too many, if any, since I'm behind in the technology. They would make nice additions to a Battleship/Battle Cruiser group, that's for sure!

dublish: Ugh, that beta patch sounds like trouble. Why mess with perfection. ;)

Enewald: Ditch that patch and you're in the clear. :D

PhilleP: Good eye, that's the Bismarck. I liked the sea plane in it, too. Losses are to be expected in the U-Boat war, but better technology is on the way!

Lord Strange: I got a little over-zealous trying to send U-Boats to the American coast and I've been playing catch-up since. The new technology, combined with Doenitz becoming the leader of the Kriegsmarine should help tip the balance in my favor. I've got some more IC to play with now, too, which allows for aggressive building.

MidEvil: I think there was maybe one Dutch ship present, but it was in charge, apparently. :D

Dead William: I've heard their value falls off, but with my doctrines and leadership it makes sense to stay with them to the bitter end. U-Boats are fire and forget it. Lose ten, build a dozen. I'm going to make a bid for U-Boat control of the seas in concert with the surface operations.

Bitter peace hit as I was carving up the Industrial provinces beyond the Urals. I have no idea what the specific conditions were, but I didn't argue!

Ugh, Cruiser and destroyer fleets. Do not want.

No world conquest: I'm aiming for victory in the war and then decide what might reasonably unfold next. I think once the main war is over the game will probably wrap-up shortly after.

It's too bad about Battle Cruisers because in real life they are an interesting mix of abilities (and Scharnhorst is my favorite ship!). I'm still determined to get some use out of them, even if it means building Scharnhorst VII at some point.

Unfortunately the Marines aren't around to be Doenitz's private guard, but it's a thought I'll tuck away for future use. ;) He actually had several historical encounters not unlike what I depicted. He joked in his memoirs about having his sheep dog for back-up in a meeting with Himmler.

son of liberty: Or just remove that beta and go back to the old ways!

coz1: Something not unlike what you describe is in the works, once Commander Schultz gets to use his new toy in actual war! "Das Boot" is a great movie, if I could be 10% as entertaining I'll take it!

Doenitz (and us!) still has no idea what is actually going on, but it certainly isn't something years of submarine school prepare you for! Could he ally himself with some other high-ranking individual? If he does, I don't think Georing with be a good choice with his history of hostility toward the Kriegsmarine, but on the other hand desperate times...

I'll keep doing it. :)

Myth: It truly is a "gangster empire." The Kriegsmarine exists outside the sphere of influence of the party for the most part, which has both advantages and disadvantages. We just want to sink ships! :D

volksmarschall: It's probably a combination of Britain's might drying up and not enough U-Boat deployment after some heavy losses. I'm not about to give up though and the new advances should help. Next stop: London and New York!

Ai Shizuka: There's troublemakers everywhere, it seems! U-Boats are very cost effective, even though you will take heavy losses. The total enemy shipping sunk by our U-Boats is probably close to that sunk by our surface fleets and that doesn't even factor in convoy sinking. I say try 'em, you might like 'em. :D

All: Congratulations to new Lieutenant-Commander von Mauser!

The Soviets have been defeated! Now it's time to settle the North Africa issue and prepare for a critical amphibious operation in the spring!

Where do you need those new subs?
Like they wouldn't have lost all their convoys by now.
Have you thought of placing several of them on the Pacific theatre to harm the American supply lines?

Both of them the "Bearn".

Off-topic, here's an interesting Submarine fact:

On 22nd of August 1944, Lt.Cdr Clarey of the US Submarine Pintado (SS-387) had the good fortune of sinking a huge enemy ship... a 19,262 ton Tanker (converted from a Whaling Factory) called Tonan Maru II.

Curiously... this was the SECOND time that Clarey had sunk this same huge ship!

As Executive Officer of Lt.Cdr Bole's Amberjack (SS-219), he had participated in the successful attack that sunk this same ship on October 10th, 1942 at Kavieng. It sunk inside Kavieng Harbor, and was later raised and returned to service... only to be sunk again, by the same guy!

Both of them the "Bearn".

Stupid French getting the entire pre Vichy fleet no matter how many ships you've sunk.:D ( The only way in which the French can keep their ships afloat.)

The Bitter Peace is one of the most satisfactory events in the game. The peace with Britain is wimpy and so utterly unsatisfactory that few people accept it. And Gibraltar should never return to GB after it has been conquered, nor the Suez canal. Dismantle that Empire!

With Bitter Peace a good number of those lovely divisions in Russia can be redeployed to Africa and the Atlantic coast, for the imminent Seelöwe, commanded from the epic Battlecruiser Scharnhorst.

The carriers are probably patrolling the coastlines of the US. Or in those sea zones you are not frequenting.

Do you have the problem that no matter how good your leaders, advanced your fleets and doctrines you still are the one on teh defensive?

Spiffing update. DW

Hey, thanks for the promotion!

That is an interesting fact Blu Emu, just blind coincidence.

I really like your Heroes of the Fatherland Updates! They are quite funny!

A good job starting to take out the smaller American Ships, no doubt the Drunken American Carriers are cowering in some isolated port. You even found a peice of the Dutch Navy aswell! Hopefully things start picking up in Africa, maybe sending the airforce there would help?

Edit: I've also seen fit to include this AAR in my official list of "Approved" AAR's, found in my signature, congratulations!

Alright! The Soviets are out of it and a formal alliance with Japan. Now wer are talking. While hunting for those US carriers, I do hope the planning is already underway for Operation Sea Lion. It is time. Let the Americans fumble around in the sand while you deliver Churchill's last bottle of whisky. ;)

take out america soonest...advanced base strike plus cv6+ is a recipe for a kriegsmarine at the bottom of the sea, especially since you're using sealane interdiction still.

though how does one bearn have one more air attack (i think...) then the other? same model...
