Ok, so aside from the 19k distance penalty which is a known issue, you are pretty much screwed if you want to form Italy and stay catholic now.
If you annex Rome you get this fancy modifier "occupation of Rome" giving you -1 Diplo rep and -10 papal influence yearly. This does not go away after you form Italy whereas before you could leave the pope as a vassal and then integrate him at admin tech 10 to avoid the -1stab hit and -20 relations with all catholics.
So basically you can't do anything with papal influence and you have a permanent -1 dip rep. Is this WAD or just something that wasn't thought about? And it's not like you can form Italy without Rome so the only way to form Italy and then keep playing the curia is by annexing the pope, forming italy and then releasing him again. Seems kinda weird, guess I'll go reformed
