Issues Connecting To Multiplayer -Steam

I recently installed Stellaris on Steam to play with some friends and have had issues connecting to their game. Whenever I attempt to join I am stuck with a never ending pop up that just says "connecting." I have tried to validate game files, reinstall the game, changed my windows firewall settings, and reinstall steam.

Still nothing has worked, any advice?

No they are not able to

Do you attempt to join games via the game? Or do you get invited via a steam invite?

I tried to do both. I accepted their game invites on steam and tried to directly join their game through Stellaris
