Issue with new launcher. Immediately closes game.

Not having any luck with this. Launching EU4 through steam immediately goes from running to syncing to closed in 1 second. Win 10 i9 9900k 1080ti, latest version of windows. Have to click on dowser.exe and run as admin all the time to play. After doing so I tried the launcher again, no dice. Still have to click dowser.exe and run as admin to launch.

Added EU4.exe to my exceptions on AVG and Malwarebytes, tried doing it on win defender but it doesn't seem like that is active since I have AVG. Tried just the exe and the whole EU4 folders. No difference. Deleted all the stuff from Documents/paradox/eu4/. Still no change. Manually deleted both EU4 folders and reinstalled. No difference. At my wits end here.

This problem does not affect Imperator - which launches fine. Seems to be only EU4 that is affected.

Here is my pdx_settings file:

Hi! Thanks for the reply, was at work so apologies for late answer. When I launch the launcher from steam by double clicking EU4 in the list of my steam games and click play in the launcher, the launcher closes and it says EU4 is running, syncing and then goes back to plain white in the list of steam games, like it started and immediately closed.

Clicking dowser.exe and running as admin launches the launcher and it works fine - click play and the game loads.

Clicking EU4.exe by itself and opting to run as admin works fine, but launches into the game immediately without the launcher.

That has exactly the same problem as double clicking on the name in the list. Launcher opens, I hit play in the launcher, the launcher closes, Running appears next to Europa Universalis IV in the list of games, then almost immediately it switches to syncing and goes back to just the name in the blink of an eye.

Let's try a clean reinstall of game and Steam:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- exit the Steam app entirely
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4 folders
- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

I don't believe it - I solved it. So EU4.exe was running as admin (when you change that setting in properties>compatibility>change settings for all users>check "run this program as administrator) but dowser.exe was not for some reason.

Right clicked on dowser.exe, followed the same path and saw that the run as admin box was unchecked. Doh! Checked it and now all is fine. Before, EU4 used to ask me to run as admin and I had to say yes, looks like it wasn't giving the launcher that choice so was auto-closing it. It seems to be fixed now. Will continue to monitor. Definitely one of those simple fixes I overlooked. Ah well.

It is a current bug in EU4 that DLCs are not available when run from eu4.app on Mac. That is unrelated to your launcher problem.

Tried everything as well.
Same results.
Same thing if I start the game with the eu4.app no dlcs are available.

This is quite sad, when you pay more than 100 euros for all the game and the dlc available you expect to play the game or if you do have any problems it is not because of a damn launcher...
I've meet a lot of mac users with the same problem having to rename dowser to dowser.exe to fix it, but that didn't work for me.
Do a BETA version for mac users with the old launcher, I don't know...

That was only necessary with 1.29, and has been fixed in 1.29.1

What games you see in your Paradox account has nothing to do with the game or launcher running or not, nor whether you can log into the game. We don't use CD keys to register games here any more, you've linked and synced your accounts successfully otherwise you could not enter this folder.

I'm sorry you are annoyed, but you have posted in someone else's thread about Windows problems, and it's often hard for us to disentangle these intertwined conversations about different issues on different OSs in the same thread. Always best to make your own dedicated thread in future.

What if you manually run eu4.app, do you at least get into the game?

I just ended up looking for answers on a possible problem here, realized pretty quickly I wasnt the only one.

My paradox account only recognizes stellaris and a 3 day notice from your team said that they were having problems syncing steam games into it, I can totally send a print of this, regardless of reaching the forums or not.
My bad thinkin one of your "user" features would work to save my playing , it is still not visible for me and a lot of other people, so logg in or out ingame as an option was a possibility.

At last when I do laumch the game from eu4.app all my dlc are offline for some reason.

Next time ill do my own thread, sorry for that.

That is a logged bug in the Mac version, I'm afraid.

I do not know what is wrong with your launcher installation though; after the dowser.exe thing was fixed I've not been seeing reports of problems with it on Mac, until yours. The logs are in:
~/Library/⁨Application Support/⁨Paradox Interactive/⁨launcher-v2⁩/ folder.

For info, I get exactly the same problem on my MAC.
Executing the EU4 app works but without the launcher. It seems that the DLCs I had before are used, but can't be sure. Waiting for your bug fixing report.

I did again a clean instal, verify deleted folders etc...but I tried the game again and even it still says dlc offline, this time I think they are actually on, I will test it now.
Launcher is doing the same thing as previously.

EDIT: Just jumped on Korea through eu4.app Ming has no tributaries, means the dlc are off.

Is there also cpatch.log and launcher-dowser.log there?
