Hi everyone, me and my MP server of around 20 people have been having an issue with crashing. We have hosted for a couple of years no problem, however since about two weeks ago when a few new people came we have had mass crashes. The crashes almost always happen between April and August of 1445 and will continue if we try to big the game up, they happen in a string amongst the players. Using the crash reporter linked below we have determined that the game claims we are crashing due to the Anbennar mod (Invalid supported_version in file: mod/ugc_1385440355.mod line: 34) , however after checking everyone's mod folder individually we see no one has had mods on. This has happened two weeks in a row, with multiple hosts, and different versions, 1.33 and 1.32. My best guess is a player somehow has a corrupt game, hence we had everyone reinstall for next week, but does anyone know how to fix this/ is that right or will someone just keep tanking the game? Thanks for any info.

The line "[dlc.cpp:250]: Invalid supported_version in file: mod/ugc_1385440355.mod line: 34" in he error.log is normal for anybody who has Anbennar installed(doesn't matter if it is activated or not), because that mod is missing a dot in the supported_version line. But I'm pretty sure that this has no impact on crashes if the mod is not active. And if you can connect to each other without getting a version error message, you either all have the mod or nobody has it.

Version 1.33 has a major OOS bug which leads to crashes for some people. It happens when the heir/consort/ruler in a player country dies or is disinherited(it doesn't always happen, possibly related to loans). Till that bug is fixed, I would recommend to play on 1.32.
Your 1.32 crash is probably a different issue. Are the crashes as frequent as on 1.33? Does everybody on that version crash, or only some players or only the host? If the crashing player is using macOS or Linux, you could post their exception.txt to narrow down the reason for the crash(the first few lines of the "Demangled Stack Trace" are what matters).

The crashes on 1.32 were even more frequent, different hosts still crashed, we did not try to replay the save on 1.32 however like we did in 1.33. I will try to replicate this with a linux machine if we can. However one person thought there game was corrupted and completely reinstalled, in a test game with less people (like 8) we had no issue, but with 20 we could again.

Does the host or the players crash on 1.32? Maybe you have somebody in your group who crashes your server. Some people have software on their computer(probably without their knowledge) which messes with the steam multiplayer and in eu4 this causes crashes. I think you can see that problem by looking at the exception.txt even on Windows. IIRC it shows a steam library/dll(and not eu4.exe) in many of the top lines of the demangled stack trace.
Have you tried the nakama multiplayer? I think it is unaffected by that problem.

Do you know if it will only show on the person who crashed exception text
I'm not sure if I understand your question. But the exception.txt will only be created on the computer which crashed. If it is the crash which I suspect it is, the computer which is crashing is not the one which is causing the crash. The problematic software crashes eu4 on other peoples computers.
does Nakama have lower performance than steam mp?
I don't really play MP myself, so I don't know. I suggest that you try it out

Do you know if it will only show on the person who crashed exception text, also unrelated but does Nakama have lower performance than steam mp? Thanks for any info!
It doesn't.

But does the issue persist when you rehost? Keep in mind that in the case of the issue grotaclas is speaking of, crashes happen almost instantenously after the game starts and will persist even with a rehost.

Have you tried to rehost when these crashes happened? Did you crash again shortly after? If not, it's likely to be a different issue. Also just to be safe make sure you disable hotjoin after your game starts (there's a chance that someone who has that issue is constantly trying to join your game).

Also have you tried hosting on Nakama? This particular issue only happens with steam.

It was not me who was crashing but my lobby, I crashed but some people did not, they persisted with rehost, took about a year each time at most, we have not tested Nakama but I think it is what you had honestly

The security exploit that I had would cause the host to crash and subsquently everyone else. The fact that some people did not crash in your case means it's something else.

1.33 is highly unstable in MP. I would suggest trying 1.32 and see if the crashes happen just as often? I've seen so many big lobbies work fine in 1.32. And maybe have someone else host to see if the issue persists with them in 1.32 too..

We have actually had 3 hosts and have done both on 1.32 and 1.33 still the same issue
