When I play Hearts of Iron, I prefer my divisions to be named in English, I don't know why, but I just helps me organize better. However, when this new update came out, every time I change the division template's name to English, it still shows the original name when I produce it. I've turned off historical division names to see if that was it, but to no avail.

I attached a picture to show you guys what I mean.

I renamed the German "Infanterie-Division" to "Infantry Division", however, when I produce it, it is still coming out as "infanterie-Division".

Am I doing something wrong? If not, please fix this if this is a bug, because before this, it was not like this. I think the countries shouldn't be locked into names; it is very time consuming to rename every single one down the line to what you want it.

Thank you!

I think you are editing in the wrong place since 1.5 came out. In the Division Designer, there's a new box underneath the Template Name where you choose a namelist. That namelist controls what your divisions are named. Under the new system, I think your options are:
(a) Create your own mod and edit the namelist text file(s) in \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\common\units\names_divisions\ .You only need to do this once per life, not once per game. There's a guide to the syntax in the top of each text file.
(b) Rename each division individually after it has been deployed.

However, I wonder whether the game ought to work in the way that you expected it to (and did in 1.4.x IIRC). Perhaps you should post a suggestion in the Suggestions subforum? The developers do read and sometimes implement what it is posted there.

For some countries the "none" namelist uses the template name, but for others (GER, JAP...) it uses some some "hidden" namelist based on the division type. This behavior doesn't seem to be documented though.

it uses some some "hidden" namelist based on the division type

In ../common/units/names probably (bottom of the file) ? But I'm not sure both GER and JAP should reach that list normally..

I seem to only get, as Germany, SS Divisions with historical names. All other types get the generic name, although, every now & then a historical names seems to be generated. I had thought that historical names were to be implemented across the board in 1.5. Guess I misunderstood something.

The new division names system was written on top of the old system.
The new one can be found in:
Code:
game\common\units\names_divisions\
The old one is in:
Code:
game\common\units\names\
If you set the namelist in the division designer to None, or... a specific pool of the names is out of free names (and it has no fallback defined), it will use the old names system.
The old names system was mainly written for ships and planes, but it's also used for the divisions, however the database of those names is poor.
For example in:
Code:
game\common\units\names\00_GER_names.txt
at the bottom there is
Code:
infantry = {
        prefix = ""
        generic = { "Infanterie-Division" }
        generic_pattern = "UNIT_GENERIC_NAME_GER"
    }
The simpliest mod you could do, is just to edit that text there. And in the game, always use the None in the division template.
