in default diplomatic range sogn can reach independent Saczs (Krakow) but it cannot reach island. how does this make any logical sense?

The northern isles will all 3 forever be indepenent due to them not being able to conquer anything and can only sit on their isles and raid, building big war chests which they use to defend against attackers.

in another save i started as island and hybridized with bjarnian culture for the 20% diplo increase with debug mode and that made it possible to reach the most north western duchies in norway from austrland. (including sogn - which im currently now) which would be a more natural diplomatic range.

Could by changed by giving them caravan tradition at norse split with their own icelandic culture. or just manually have them reach the shores of west of norway.

Its a bit strange they can raid Cordoba but they cannot get ships to norway.

Reykjavik to Oslo in 2530 km. Oslo to Moscow is only 1664 km, Oslo to Istanbul is 2429 km, and Oslo to Madrid is 2388 km. Tunis is only slightly further away at 2570 km. Granted, Oslo isn't close to Iceland, but that gives you the idea of how far distances are in the subpolar regions for the world.

I can see your point. But, historically and geographically, Iceland was quite isolated from the rest of Europe. Iceland itself has diplomatic range over the North Sea islands, Scotland, most of Ireland, and parts of England. This may seem counter-intuitive, but Norway actually is quite far from Iceland. The game bases diplomatic range on actual distance, not what "natural diplomatic range" should be. I could see an argument for fudging the map. But, the underlying problem is real-world geography, not game design.

i did know that it was further, i checked world map and it was further away than what i could tell from ingame. however iceland was settled by vikings (or irish monks) it doesnt make sense they wouldn't be able to reach the shores of some part of norway. i dont expect them to have diplomacy range all the way to oslo (vikin map) but hordaland, sogn.

thanks for reply tho.
