:glare: Really? stack of 20 rebels on Cyprus??? Now I have to make like 30 transports because of the landing penalties and there's a good chance I'll still lose.

If i don't finish the transports in time my whole nation will randomly convert to orthodox because of one lousy little island like Cyprus???

I have no idea how to fix this mechanic but its honestly one of the most annoying in the game.

Good advice. As for me, I always assume an AI-controlled island is going to be a pain in the ass and is amost never worth the headache - Cyprus, Bornholm, Socotro, I'm looking at you - and so I generally beat nations down to their island territories, then vassalize since I just know Murphy's Law is going to screw me on them. I also keep many more transports around than I probably optimally need, just in case I have to bust up an island rebellion.

In my last Ironman game, AI Ottomans were still trying to take Rhodes in 1821. They must be even more frustrated than I am over Bornholm and Socotro.

You probally didn't have 20K rebels rise up at once right? That is the combined total of 2-3 rebellions?

It is entirely reasonable to keep 10K guys on an island while you are converting it. Or really, close to any territory you are converting. And if you have 10K guys there and keep transports close, you can re-enforce if needed.

I usually try to avoid conquering islands with unaccepted cultures/religions. It's just not worth the extra hassle unless you need that specific island for some strategic purpose like claim fabrication or colonial range.

Nope, the button is greyed out and states that it has to be dominant. I think you can accept demands if you have the option to convert normally, like Catholic to Reformed.


EDIT - Here's the exact details. Orthodox is the dominant religion so I can accept it.

You can accept heathen demands if their religion is dominant in your Empire (or if they've seiged down your capital I believe). For heretics I think you accept and the provinces they held just get massive malus to conversion for many years.

Use harsh treatment liberally on islands and get the guy with less revolt risk if you can´t afford a garrison. No other way to deal with that crap, really. Other than reloading.

Rebels eventually go away if you ignore them and they can't enforce demands lol. That is really annoying though, much more so during westernization when you've colonized islands throughout the Indian ocean and into Indonesia and are say Sub-Saharan. At that point yes, a 10 stack on every colony *is* unreasonable. Your entire force limit would be used up before you can cover half of them, and those rebels are very strong compared to your forces. Fortunately, current westernization allows you to set it up so your only rebels are events, so that's a lot more doable these days.

I abhor mid-war AI rebels popping out of occupied territory and helping it far worse because of how effing stupid and senseless it is that a nation's hostile rebels would make an active effort to protect it (IE patriots of a nearby nation, peasants angry with current rulership, etc). Yet another Euro-centric trash requirement is that you're at tech 3 to support these guys away. India, China, and Africa are powerless against such rebels and are rarely large enough to simply destroy them outright, barring regional powers like Ming, Vijay, or Mali. But a Euro OPM or even a horde? No problems there; just pay them .1 ducat/month and they are friendly! Derp!

As if rebel support as a concept isn't the territory of pre-ADs concepts. Why is there even a tech requirement on that?
