I decided to, just because, make an Egyptian republic. Why, given the land I own did I not form Arabia? Because I've already done that, but haven't played Egypt before. Anyways, after forming Egypt from Mamluks, I then formed an Oligarchic administration (ouch on the stability to do that all at once), and now I have this lovely screen shot, with a decision still referring to me as the Sultan.

I also had nothing to do with what happened to France...or Muscovy...or Ryazan's rise...or that blobbed up Munster...Austria is somewhat my fault, I send them money every time they're at war with Ottomans. I want the Ottomans to be on the wrong end of merc spam, but don't want to lose my 100% professionalism, so "I'm not hiring mercs...Austria is". It's been an interesting run so far.

Ditto that, the -4 stab was realllllly a PITA, but the satisfaction and the power of infinite re-election clearly swept out the troubles in front.

(And also to redistribute 50% of your lands to burghers, but well that's capitalism for you brah :p)

I'm not a very experienced EU4 player so I don't quite understand how an Egyptian islamic republic can have infinite re-election without hitting its republican tradition too much. I never played an Islam religion before and I only have a little experience with republics, so...
But this kind of campaign can interest me.

There's no special abuse for this but the right idea set and policies can help you for infinite re-election :

1. Diplo - Aristo, The Tenure Abolition Act : +1 yearly legitimacy/+0,4 republican tradition (RT)
2. Plutocratic - Economic, Formalized Weight Scale and Measures : +0,2 RT and +10% tax.

Along with the strengthen government (100 MIL for 3% RT and trust me you will swam on MIL points) and events that can add more RT, infiite re-election is not impossible.

I havent played a republic in a long time but I would assume the method for doing so would be to just use strengthen government whenever rt gets low. If im correct in that republics have access to the feature.

Muslims don't have any special way to abuse republics. I just wanted to play this for the lulz. If you want to abuse a republic, play Catholic. Click saint button, make stability, wait for the event to sac stab to make RT, then make another saint. As long as you keep expanding to convert for PI, you're good. You get the MP farm from 6/6/6 presidents, and don't even have to spend MP to keep them. Throw in the 3 base in each, rank 5 advisors, and 50 PP, and well, whoever said you have to choose between a blobbed country or a tall one? Play both!

Republics still suffer from low maximum absolutism and generally bad events. I wouldn't bother with any except Revolutionary, or possibly Merchant Republics in the early game.

With Strengthen Government, there's nothing to really 'abuse' any more for Republics: re-election is easy for everyone, and stabbing up can be made reasonably cheap if necessary. Monarchies have far more potential to 'abuse' Catholicism through the HRE and game of thrones.

Republics still suffer from low maximum absolutism and generally bad events. I wouldn't bother with any except Revolutionary, or possibly Merchant Republics in the early game.

Veche Republic doesn't have the absolutism penalty. It does have all the other Merchant Republic downsides though (plus it's locked to Duchy rank), so you have to be pretty committed to a trade company-based game to make it work. This government type makes no sense at all in the long run as Novgorod, but could be fun for the lulz in a custom game.

Republic events aren't that bad compared to the events for monarchies. Generally you have very few risks or dramas (unless you deliberately keep RT low, or really mess up the factions as a Merchant/Veche Republic); Strengthen Government has made the RT management game completely trivial. It's the lack of absolutism that makes most Republics (+ parliamentary monarchies) bad for a non-tall second half of the game.

OK, thanks for your responses @Vicodin_Addict and @Kathandis.
So actually, this works for any republic.
theres one that reelects too quickly so that one might run out of points, also you probably want whatever saves mil points on techs (eg aristo) because later on you may slow down

however, within normal years you get such an overflow you are forced to spend mil on something and having strengthen gov available is cool

Also, Islam sucks for 1 term presidents. It started me at 50 RT, so I'm trying to build up some RT here and I keep losing all my piety.

If you're struggling to get your RT up, why not elect military candidates? Spamming the Strengthen Government button and re-electing is ultimately more efficient than being stuck with 6-point presidents all the time.

theres one that reelects too quickly so that one might run out of points,

tradition loss is based on re-election cycle length. So short re-elections lose you less RT than long ones do. Basically keeping the same ruler for the same amount of time should cost the same RT regardless of your election cycle length. Making short election cycles REALLY good because your rulers get to 6/6/6 faster.

I think changing the Ottoman dynamic so much may have cascading consequences. The Ottoman's have a lot of affect in the Russian region. Though the Novgorod thing is odd since they disappear so early usually. Maybe a combination of an early rise of Novgorod and your, no doubt, early and constant pressure on the Ottoman's.

It's interesting to think about and how real world geo-political dynamics have so many variables and paths.
