I’ve seen a fair few incorrect comments so far, so just to correct a few people. #1 is that encirclements are thing in vic2, and are very rewarding for a player, in vic2 a unit which is encricled, IE all surrounding provinces have an allied unit around a battle, have the enemy units in that battle stackwiped. Stackwipes DELETE! enemy pops in the stack, ignoring army hospital rate, which can deal massive damage to an enemy. #2 Sphering in vic2 is extremly rewarding, with the goods gained from sphering severely outweighing what is gained if the territory is uncorred, doesn’t have accepted pops, and is civilized. Sphering automatically copies all goods in a nation and gives you a free 50% for your internal market, which can be increased to 100% copied with a majority national investment.

Sphere's duplicate goods? Huh, I can still learn new things about this game. When it comes down to it, a lot of mechanics in Vic 2 just don't make any sense. Hopefully 3 does much better with this.

Well, that's hardly the ONLY issue. Apart from those mentioned above, I'll just add that the way you influence elections is both highly unrealistic in design and arbitrary in its effects. Those pre-election events are really lame.

I fully expect that, finally (!), they're going to announce Vicky 3 in a couple of days, Yet I fear greatly that, despite the likely presence of Wiz and podcat on the development team, they'll find a way to mess with the formula that made Vicky 2 by far their best game. Instead of presenting us with an improvement of that model, they'll produce yet another alt-history map-painter.

I fully agree, there are lots of questionable, strange, and or flat out stupid mechanics in the game. I think that, ultimately, what I hope for most in a sequel is still having similar pop and combat mechanics but easier to manage with clearer menu information. I really enjoy how as the game progresses you move away from death stacks to static frontlines organically, which is pretty much unique to vicky.

Yes, a thorough overhaul of how the military side of things is handled would be a good thing!

I don’t think it’ll be a full blown map painter but I think they’ll take at least a few steps in that direction. At the very least I expect they will make conquest a tad easier and add in more ways to manage/reduce your infamy which is admittedly very harsh in Victoria II.

Vicky needs hoi style combat improvements on pops and economy. More depth to colonies more depth and challenging politics. More etc etc not a dumbed down game with better graphics.
