Ok I had a rediculous amount of support and still the United States would not be defeated.

I'm playing Mexico and it was year 1862. I'm given a break since France decided to not intervene after I did the debt event so I had a decent sized army and an alliance with Britian. Finally the Civil War erupts and like the good neighbor I am I declare war on the United State bringing Britian into the war. Things were looking wonderful my armies literally crushed army after army, slowly pushing into the east. It had become a great war and so it was mostly me and CSA in America while Britian dealt with France and Spain.

The CSA basically stayed its normal size but I had taken all of the United States western holdings and even caused the Washington area to rebel and form the Nation of Columbia, USA has about 60 percent war exhaustion. Finally it seemed my death machine just ran out of steam! even though my armies were destroying army after army they would just churn out more and more! Finally the army I had been using to demolish their forces was totally destroyed when an army of 200,000 American troops fought them. Now this wasn't all their army either they still a had four regiments capturing Canada and seven 10,000 strength armies pushing behind their behemoth. I was able to get a decent peace out of them but decided to quit. The reason I quit was the fact that they had a millitary score of 70 while mine was reduced to 5 and during the time of peace when they couldn't attack they'd constantly mobilze kinda as if boasting that after five years everything I captured would be paid back with intrest.

Anyways is their anyway to defeat them with Mexico? This is all on easy too so I'm just astounded at their endless numbers of troops. I suppose one explanation was at this time their was Britian at war with France and Spain which would cause more refugees to flow to the United States...

The USA is a real beast. Personally I'd aim to go for a naval-lead task force to their capital and quickly bump up the war score that way. I like to play my games with lightning assaults all of the time, though.

My first thoughts are that they just went full-scale war economy when you took all of their western provinces from them, thus leading to endless hordes of American divisions heading your way! Unlucky!

I blitzed their eastern shores as France once and suddenly they was my personal slave :D
I managed to get some provinces and satellize them :)

i frequently defeat the US as the Confederate states. First thing to do is abandon the idea of economic development proor to victory. As soon as the game starts, every available body must be mobilised into the army. The key is to defeat US armies in pennsylvania and northern Virginia, holding your
ground in maryland long enough that the state of maryland votes to leave the USA and join your confederacy. This will be giving you breathing space, AND manpower(MD is quite a populous state-vital for the early confederate army-they you build sufficient troops to punch through Kentucky-holding it long enough that it defects toyou, and the, the killer blow to the US is to cut through Ohio to the great lakes-this cuts the links between the eastern US and the west-no troops can be deployed out west after that, so as long as you have sufficient defence of your frontiers out west, that should remain stable, giving you time to devote all your effort to building armies headng due east.

I generally find that, as galling as it is, you should never call the US bluff when they go for peace-never demand `all theborder states`-just take what you have....by the time you get any peace offer, your economy, such as the CS economy is at first, has been totally given over to supportin the war, and you need to demobilise your armies ASAP to get ppl back into the labour pool(generally, every man available is, of necessity turned into a solider to support the confederate armies)

What are other peoples confederate victory ideas?

As Mexico, I've defeated the USA in 3 wars, but they always just build more troops and attack you 5 years later. It's impossible for Mexico to become stronger than the USA. Time plays against Mexico in this game. The USA gets all this immigration, even in Revolutions and VIP when the US immigration bonus is reduced.

Even when Mexico defeats the USA, it's only a temporary victory because holding USA cores means it will definitely be attacked again, 100%. So after 5 years of paying down your debt from the war, and desperately trying to build enough troops without going bankrupt, out of a population of what, 8 million, and with zero immigration and inferior tech, the USA is just going to attack you again and make it worse.

That being said, the USA can be defeated but you are almost required to take D.C. if you want to have any chance at forcing them to make peace. FFZ and Vladislav mentioned this.

Maybe satelliting them would prevent them from attacking you again, but good luck accomplishing this as Mexico.

I find any of the European nations can easily crush the Americans, especially early in the game. A Canada that has managed to steal a lot of immigration from the US can also win handily, they have the power of Britain on their side.

The trick is how to steal immigration from the US without editing files. How did you do it?
What version were you using to achieve that 66 million figure for Canada? VIP R 0.2?

It shows on your map Canada is still a Con Mon. They don't get a lot of immigration in any of the versions I've tried even with 'Good' reforms, high plurality, etc. Maybe a couple of hundred a month.

It is the latest version of VIP, I forget which number it is. I really didn't get very much immigration until I got Confederation. Then it started to sky rocket. I had the Liberal Party in power. Its a solid party for immigration. The USA had lost the Civil War, for some reason they just didn't have any troops. In the aftermath of the war, the Americans lost control of the west. Since they never got those precious metal provinces there was never an incentive to immigrate there. They also had the American Party in power, a slavery party. I had perfect reforms and British Columbia started producing gold. The Yukon started producing gold and Britain gave me Alaska (more gold). I had precious metal and the US didn't so I got all the immigrants.

Also, I got lucky and a lot of European countries had high militancy, so they were eager to emigrate.

Oh, so it's not something you have a lot of control over. There are a lot of uncontrollable variables that just happened to work out for you.

Did the British give you Alaska in an event or did you trade them for it?

The US was too devastated to buy Alaska from the Russians. If they don't buy the territory, the Russians offer it to the British. Some years later, the British can choose to give it to Canada by event.

Yes, a lot of it was good luck, but I find Canada can be a useful foil to the United States. If Canada is a democracy, with good reforms and a liberal party, they can counter the US effectively. This particular game, I wanted to remain a Con Monarchy. I did go to war a lot with the United States to prevent them from getting the precious metal provinces. That was the key. If they don't get the precious metal than they get very few immigrants. I created California and Columbia as satellites. Also I protected the CSA against the Union so that they kept control over the central precious metal territories. No one wants to move to the Confederacy.

So yes, it does help to have some luck, but also effective campaigns that have certain goals such as getting those precious metal territories away from the Americans.

But your Canada is a dominion of the UK, yes? I thought dominions & satellites can't declare war except upon their overlord nation.

You must have guaranteed independence for all the likely targets of US aggression and gone to war that way. That is clever and it would also bring the UK & British India into the war on your side.

Not if you manage to hold into California, and buy Alaska off the Russians before the US does the same. If you have a Liberal/Socialist party plus Full Citizenship and available RGO's in either Alaska or California, then immigrants will prefer Mexico most of the time.
