I recently noted that military / advanced military engineering guilds do not apply to boats. Civil either, though that wasn't expected. Is this intended? I am having a time wondering why this is the case. Basically, that massive 2 armor advantage for all units does not apply to ships. This seems counter-intuitive. It doesn't even give the production bonus. Everything else appears to work normally, but not this. If that is the case, there is zero reason to have an engineering city build boats. You would be way better served using research / energy or anything else.

What is the logic here?

Edit: Genetics labs don't appear to work either for some odd reason. DNA vaults and Nutrition Centers do, but genetics labs don't.

Light applies only to light units and Heavy applies only to heavy units. There's a good reason for that, the boats is very powerful in the water, they don't really need the +2 armor. Land units don't want to get in a shooting fight against enemy ships, it'll usually result in them getting sunk.

You don't want a engineering city to produce boats, you just want naval cities to produce boats instead.

I think DNA Vaults and Nutrition centers isn't supposed to work on boats but some of the boats is actual living creatures like amazon's whales, etc.

If you don't believe me, just grab a bunch of land units and send them into the water and have them pick a fight against proper warfleet, you'll see your transports sunk pretty quickly unless u get lucky xD

Then why don't you at least get the production bonus? And why do ALL of the other bonuses work? This literally makes no sense. And it isn't 'light' and 'heavy,' it is skirmisher, specialist, and elite. If you read it exactly, it says you get the bonus for 'non-elite' production, if you are using the Military Engineering Guild. That should mean anything non-'elite' (tier 3-4). Why give you nothing? And even still, the bonus only makes sense. It is late-game before they really get going anyway. Two shields is not game-breaking, but does help those that try hard to make ships work - which is NOT easy.

I believe it won't help anyway because it is optimal to ignore water. If you ever tried fighting tier 3 vanguard ship, you know why. For those who didn't, it deals 40+ damage in radius 2 area from range 9 and cannot be killed in 1 turn because of 70 HP and 4 shields

Ships do work, they're not perfect but they're damn powerful. The first ship at start of game is squishy but it does the job fine. Cheap to build. Get out those t3 ships and outfit them with proper modules. Hoo boy. Any transports foolish enough to brave the waters without protection of their allied fleets will be enjoy a forced permanent stay at davy jones locker.

Ships isnt' exactly invincible but they're not easy to sink either. Something about open empty ocean making it easy to score hits on large targets. :p
