Is this how Johan and Wiz look like while adjusting AE for 1.8?

Paradox made the big mistake of NOT stating whether or not this or that bonus is stacking

Almost every same-type modifier in EU4 stack in an additive manner (discipline, tax, -coring cost, etc.). It doesn't sound like all of the AE modifiers are "same-type" though, only similar modifiers that effect the same thing but are kept distinctly separate.

Based on experience and some limited testing, I'm guessing the formula is somewhat close to:

Actualized AE = Base AE * (global AE modifier) * (CB AE modifier) * (Province modifier)

Where global AE modifiers are prestige, curia, ideas, etc.; CB AE modifier is self explanatory; and province modifiers are the distance/religion/culture ones.

Decided to test AE between what the AI gets and what I get. To do it, I simply started up a game in observer, waited for a war that looked like an interesting test subject and when it peaced out I went to the monthly autosave before it, set myself as the winning country and took the same peace deal. Seemed easy enough.

Here's the 4 saves pre-peace deals: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46623133/eu4/AE test games.zip

Results (feel free to try these yourself with the saves in the above link):
1) Mamluks (not lucky) full annexation of Ramazan. AE was the exact same for the AI and myself.

2) Muscovy partial annexation of Kazan (including returning Perm to Perm). AE was roughly 25% less for the AI. A few countries were a point off, but I assume that to be rounding.

3) Burgundy annexation of Barrois from Provence. AE was the same for the AI and myself.

4) France annexation of 3 provinces from Burgundy. AI got roughly 25% less AE than I did. Similar to Muscovy a few countries were a point off (one was 2) which I assume was rounding.

I also watched one where Poland took a large chunk of the Teutons getting over 40 AE with several countries. I came up with the idea to let the game run another 6 months and see what happens to compare if as the player I would get a larger coalition than the AI. In both cases only the Teutons joined, and in the process I forgot to get the pre-peace save.

I hope to find some more time later to let it run a bit longer and see if I can catch some scenarios that aren't quite so straightforward to see how they add up.

I think the only problem with AE and coalitions is the AI pacing themselves *too well*

We hardly see any big coalition wars against AI monsters, and this can lead people to believe that humans have some huge disadvantages when it comes to AE and coalitions.

It would be nice if supposedly aggressive AI leaders would sometimes get a little out of hand and provoke a coalition war.

The funny thing is that 150 years in, Austria has eaten pretty much the entire HRE, France is chilling in Madrid, oh and also in Copenhagen, and sometimes Rome, perhaps even in Frankfurt.

To add on, I just recently got a stab hit for declaring war against someone who I have military access of. I think this is nonsense, because you can just cancel the military access then declare war. I think paradox should just make the declare war button unclickable for someone you have military access of.

Why didn't you just cancel it then when you saw the -5 note in the DoW screen?

A player who paces themselves will also avoid coalitions...
False, you can get coalitions for fabricating claims in the HRE. Declare war and conquer the province you fabricated on and you will be the target of a coalition.

What is your definition of "pace themselves"? Because fabricating one claim and conquering one province seems pretty slow paced.

What is your definition of "pace themselves"? Because fabricating one claim and conquering one province seems pretty slow paced.

While it won't be a significant coalition, you can get one by being caught fabricating a single claim. It will be 1-2 nations, but it can and does happen. "Pace yourself" indeed, 2 provinces after being caught on one = 5-6 nation coalition without heavy investment in improved relations and alliances, which masks a problem that will still take over a decade to disappear completely at 100 prestige.

To someone who wants to actually PLAY this game and not sit there, fighting and defeating coalitions is a consistent reality, short of finding certain workarounds.
