Is this how Johan and Wiz look like while adjusting AE for 1.8?

I just don't understand the point of his comment. He makes it sound like the AE that should have gone to Austria went to Trier, instead, and that this is somehow an expected outcome, despite all peace deals attributing said AE (from granting land to an ally) to the ally, and not you.

So is that expected, or not? Or is it a bug? If it's a bug, is it being dealt with? Why does this sound surprising? If it's not a bug, then why is the description wrong?

I'm getting kind of tired of seeing or posting bug reports and the only response is "plz post a save" as if numerous situations like these weren't easily re-creatable via the console and the onus is on us to copy our ironman games anytime we find something out of whack. But whatever.

I have no idea if it's a bug. That's the point. I cannot tell from a single screenshot of an odd situation whether there is a bug, let alone find and fix if there one. I tried recreating the situation on my own and could not produce a similar result. The reason we ask for saves is not because we're too lazy to use our magical bug detectors to find all the bugs in the code, it's because we need repro cases of bugs to fix them. This is software coding 101.

AFAIK based on previous reports (this has cropped up in the bug subforums multiple times), the only time you get AE for giving something to your ally is if you give your ally a vassal. Otherwise, the person receiving the provinces gets the AE.

4 provinces with cleansing heresy giving 30 base AE (multiplied by culture/religion) looks pretty normal to me, but typically in the HRE that scales up to the end-nations to be a boatload all the same.

Will this ever be fixed? When will the AI see a meaningfully and much needed overhaul? Thanks

EU IV is balanced for multiplayer, there is no need to fix the AI since singleplayer is not important.

I have a feeling that a bit of a reason why people believe that AI lucky nations are cheating is because AI lucky nations are already big from the start. What this means is they can wage wars on multiple fronts, and so the AE that they accumulate is more spread-out among their neighbours, thus resulting in less coalitions despite a more expansionist attitude. In my Ottoman game a patch ago I had no problem expanding like crazy, growing at least twice or thrice as fast as AI France without ever triggering a coalition war, simply by constantly changing fronts.

Unfortunately, a lot of players on the forum seem to be interested in starting a game as a minor and minors simply cannot spread themselves across multiple fronts, so it's no wonder that they end up causing coalitions to form.

AE is seriously BS, the vassal system isn't even historical, if you want real historical expansion.
If we wanted historical expansion we would just sit back in observer mode and see not much happen. /eyeroll
The AE system isn't amazing, but its better than nothing. Hopefully it will be a better mechanic in a later expansion or EU5.

Interesting that you use a picture of a medium-large Austria, while you yourself rule all of Britain and North Germany as Scotland....

And I've had a permanent coalition since early 1500's... Also If I remember correctly at that point I was about to throw Portugal and Spain out of iberia

Yeah I am sure you are right; just like everything else that is broken, not very important and too costly to fix properly the AI is going to be removed in the next patch. The ultimate anti-WC measure: force all players to play MP only!

Anyone that watches my videos in a regular basis knows that I love PDS games and I support PDS the best that I can; however there are only 2 things that I complain about:
1- Arcade rebels that do literally nothing except to annoy the player (and they do it very well that is why I complain "all" the time).
2- dumb AI (btw I seldom "complained" about it in >1050 videos)
In HOI III the AI is not smart quite the opposite really but I seldom see it doing things as stupid as in EU IV 1.7, this is especially upsetting because it happens all the time (at least to me) and this is a new game most likely designed from scratch to help the AI perform better. If you did not understood why I was so upset in the previous video, maybe you can understand a little better by watching what I had to put up since the beginning of the Frankfurt campaign. I did not planned to post any of these videos here, especially not this 2nd one but I was editing it to publish it in the next few days and think it is still relevant to hopefully improve the game.

HOI III AI is usually terrible, compared to EU IV. Just automate armies as a naval power such as GB/Japan and put some objectives and watch the AI do nothing even if you have 3 times the navy/army needed to do the operation.

They did change the rebel system in 1.8, though.

CB reduction is not additive with other bonuses, and given how high AE is within the HRE it seems dubious they'd be able to reduce it that low.
So, does that mean the other bonuses do all stack additively? In that case I'm not surprised most of these stories are about Austria. Their first three ideagroups are Influence, Diplomatic and Economic (which can get them -25%), are at a permanent 100 prestige (-10%), and are regularly papal controller (another -10%). If that all stacks additively with the lucky -25% reduction, then they'd only take 30% normal AE. That seems to be taking it a bit too far.

Nonsense, it just means they get to" pace themselves" by taking 3.3 times as many provinces!

Paradox made the big mistake of NOT stating whether or not this or that bonus is stacking (aka 10%+10%+10%=30% -or- 10% on top of the 10% on top of the basic 10% gives 12,xx%. Some bonuses its stacks, others not.

Heh, this thread reminds me when me and my brother were just young titans in terms of EU4, and experienced just some strange things. These were in patch 1.6.

Once we were Ottomans and Mamluks. Started counquering Arabia like hell, and Timurids entered a coalition against Mamluks. (At this time, we didn't really know how AE works.), but when we checked the coalition map, they had only 20 AE, so we thought that's almost a barrier for our conquest. Never the less, we kept attacking countries, and one day, we noticed Najd had ~170 AE against the Mamluks, but didn't get into a coalition against them! But some years later, they entered. (We kicked their ass, so whatever.)

At an another time, we did France+England (we divided the world beforehand), and the Ottoman AI did a strange thing: after annexing Albania, declared war on Roman Empire, getting the Roman Empire+Serbia+Bosnia+Wallachia alliance at the same time, and one after another, they annexed all of them! And we were like, wth? And for a half year, nothing happened against them. Then Poland entered into coalition against them. Then Venice. Then Austria. Countries kept getting in coalition against the Ottomans, but with years difference. In the end, they got into 3 different coalition wars, because countries kept entering at much different times. In the end, there were (as I remember): Poland, Lithuania, Bohemia, Brandenburg, Austria, Venice, Papal State, Tuscany, Aragon, Naples, Castille. (Maybe some smaller state.). Their ass got kicked like hell.

Nothing much, but back then, it was strange somehow. Like AI didn't care for AE above 100.
