France never was part of RE
Obviously it wasn't, that's why there is a latin-based language spoken by 65 something million people EVERYWHERE there today..
Geographical france was one of the first series of conquests of the SPQR outside of central italy, and Caesar (that conquering guy, you might remember him) was largely responsible for most of it (other than narbonensis & cisalphine gaul).
Saying that rome never had gaul/france is much the same as holocaust denial, there's too much evidence for you to deny it, other than racial motivation.

Gaul says hello.
They implemented the imperial reconquest stuff because they know they have tons of byzantine fans who want to reform the Roman Empire (and did so before).

Julius Ceasar's Conquest of GAUL(ie France) starts with the STATEMENT Gaul is divided into 3 parts Aquitaine,Belgica, ETC.

Pretty good reason to include it under that CB.

AS for England that and Wales was part of the Roman province of Brittania.Everything South of Lothian belongs to them.

I just wish the Imperial Reconquest CB didn't Kick in UNTIL you implement Roman Empire Restored Decision......and that should be hard to implement.(Absolute CA,Certain provinces,and a large amount of Prestige)

They should have Dejure Claims on Eastern Empire though.

the imperial reconquest casus belli should have stages. When i started up a vanilla game it noticed it didnt work against the turks not sure why. It should only be active in the historical ERE area after theodosius split the empire. Then after you fully conquer that then the CB becomes active for anything west of Bulgaria/Greece. I hate having to holy war to get larger areas than one province at a time, heck the byzantines didnt even really believe in holy war.

granted im playing project balance currentlyand it took it out.

As for the fatimids in my vanilla game they devoured nubia, most of north africa and galicia, i player cheated and gave them 100% decadence.......didnt stop them =/

As a ruler ( i managed to get emperor pretty quickly), the faction system is pretty challenging. Rebel vassals can be pretty scray now on paper

The only problem is that they don't merge their armies together, so if you just manage to have one large stack, you can just pick one small stack at a time, even if they outnumber you 10 to 1 in theory, and win that way. If this get fixed, and they work together, we will have a very good system to prevent crown authority to go too high, and some nice little revolutions.

I think this is more a general AI thing than just the faction armies. Look at how allies behave in a war or a crusade!

Imperial Reconquest doesn't work against the Turks because they're Muslims, which is specified in the code.

what i figured.......but it doesnt make sense for it not to work, id imagine reclaiming asia minor and syria takes priority over italy well atleast for me it does, asia minor was the heartland of the empire for hundreds of years. Heck i value asia minor over croatia and serbia =/

Its annoying having to holy war when historically the byzantines didnt really believe in holy war. i still think the western european half of imperial conquest shouldn t be available until the tradiational borders of the ERE prior to the muslim invasion are restored

Good ol' semantics.

France, the Kingdom, certainly wasn't; but France, the area of land, certainly was.

Actually, even semantically speaking, you could argue that the earliest Merovingians nominally paid some homage to the authority of the Empire. Of course, its not exactly easy to make any statements with certainty about the early Dark Ages.

I don't know enough to really argue about it, but I'd be surprised if it was anything more than lip service.

edit: or really even that tbh

There are plenty of instances of them taking over Byzantium, spain and italy, before tearing france into bits.

Edit; with 1.06, haven't seen too much of it yet with 1.07.

Italy too huh...? *builds faster* I don't know if the faction system is more challenging for kingdoms like myself or empires (or if it's proportional) but Italy is just not big enough for the egos of italians dukes from the same dynasty. I had already changed to Seniority law right before the patch came out (ugh, not a fan of it I learn) and most my relatives were imprisoned until finally I lived long enough to change the law. The size of rebel armies came as a surprise...the threat was <50% on the faction window but there was notification of more rebels joining in and just as I was about to see 26K Italians die over jealousy (we were evenly matched) suddenly the war ended as inconclusive, just as we were about to fight. I was relieved but I think you should be able to imprison rebels...I guess they just drop the faction and the war is over?

Conversely, I was able to not only lower crown law in HRE but I got an Event to ask the Emp for a vassal -- (I don't know if that's in the last version) and so didn't have to war for two islands. I don't know what a normal HRE game is like but it's an entertaining fragmented mess now. I lost count of how many times the HQ was moved. I nearly took over a few times but am not playing a conquest game (beyond de jure) so far, but now I wonder if I'd want the headache. Yeah, eventually, but I guess running an empire shouldn't be easy by any means. Still I'm anxious to see how my next leader does under Elective -- golden child for a king I selected -- for once even on day one most vassals and courtiers were positive -- and I have all these neg title claimant and a couple desires X modifiers to contend with...

But OP? I know I was determined to look up console commands for the first time ... so yeah I guess I look forward to any future balancing, but so far the pros (entertainment/challange) have outweighed the negatives....so far.

First of all in file D:\Crusader Kings II\common\cb_types\00_cb_types
in line "imperial_reconquest = {" i deleted next lines:

Also, haven't gotten that far yet but I want a normal game if some country/empire is going to try to conquer Italy but am glad for this code (instruction, I mean) if needed. Still, Italy wasn't even a Kingdom until, what, early 1900s? So, I guess this is to be expected.

I thought it may be expedient to post a couple of tweaks I use here. I'm sure others have used them too, but not everyone will be aware of how to edit 00_cb_types.txt

Search for the 'religious = {' CB type.

Add the section below (in orange) to stop Muslims from being able to launch jihads against Orthodox and Miaphysite rulers. In particular this will help Ethiopia sick around a bit longer.

Code:
	can_use = {
		ROOT = {
			NOT = { religion_group = pagan_group }
			NOT = { same_realm = FROM }
			[COLOR="#FF8C00"]NOT = {
				AND = {
					religion_group = muslim
					OR = {
						FROM = { religion = orthodox }
						FROM = { religion = miaphysite }
					}
				}
			}[/COLOR]
			...

Search for the 'imperial_reconquest = {' CB type.

There are two sections like this, under 'can_use = {' and 'is_valid = {' :

Code:
OR = {
				[COLOR="#FF8C00"]#[/COLOR]has_landed_title = e_byzantium
				has_landed_title = e_roman_empire
			}

Just hash out the top line on both sections so the game doesn't read it. This will stop the Byzantines from being able to rampage around Europe with their free super CB type. Reserving it for the Roman Empire actually makes more sense in that it gives you more of a reason to form it in the first place.

It may also be worth going into 00_religions.txt and changing this:

Code:
	shiite = {
		graphical_culture = muslimgfx

		icon = 4
		color = { 0 0.8 0 }

		crusade_name = "JIHAD"
		scripture_name = THE_KORAN
		god_names = {
			GOD_ALLAH GOD_THE_GREATEST
		}

		can_grant_claim = yes
		can_call_crusade = [COLOR="#FF8C00"]no[/COLOR]
		priests_can_marry = yes
		psc_marriage = no
		max_wives = 4
	}

Generally these changes will help to weaken the Fatimids (at the very least they will be less rabidly expansionist) and strengthen the Ethiopians.
