Is this game ever going to be updated?

Not even an announcement that the game is cancelled or any further development is ceasing. At least with Imperator, they told you it was over.

I’ve written off the money. I just won’t pre-order games in the future knowing the bonuses offered don’t cover the potential risks.
The main issue is that they’re still selling it without saying one way or the other whether it’s still being developed. That’s shaky ground legally.

They didn't sell a Season Pass for Imperator though. The only reason why we haven't heard from PDX is that they don't want to give you back your money for the Season Pass. They much rather release some half-ass DLC without any substance 8 years after the release of the base game to not be liable anymore as soon as they find some company who will create a second DLC for cheap after Romero Games has bailed.

This is all bad in itself, but still selling the second DLC on all platforms is where I draw the line. How greedy can you be to still have something on sale that you know very well is not going to be released in a year until they forged some cheap contract with a random studio that is cheaper than having to pay back the customers who bought the season pass. This is f'ed up beyond belief for a company that always marketed the nerdiness and good intentions of their employees. The good old times when Johan ran the business are over.

Disappointed in Romero as well. The guy has obligations to his players, he clearly doesn't care.
It was Brenda's Baby, not John's.

Realistically it seams that Romero game signed a publishing deal with Paradox including 2 DLC. The release didn't go as well as planned and the motivation to continue was not there anymore. They finished the DLC they worked on the the game was released, never started DLC 2 because reasons and now Paradox still sells because there is a contract and Brenda can't bring herself to do her job, because her baby wasn't received as warmly as she hoped.

Some days I wake up and don't feel like doing my job also. But the difference between me and the Romero's is, I didn't sell something to loads of people and then abandon it.

Brenda never wanted to listen. She wanted to tell players what they should like. Her kid would repeat back any positive comments and well expressed criticisms from devoted fans were completely ignored. And when Meyer Lansky lawsuits happened they kind of just quit caring.

One of the shoddiest and shadiest game scams I’ve ever seen. Paradox should be embarrassed.

A closer analogy would be you turning up for work to continue working on something that hadn’t sold well but not being paid as the publisher had pulled the plug.

Because the game designer won’t accept player feedback, ignores problems, and will only accept positive responses regarding their product was not Paradox’s fault.

The Paradox employees assigned to this project were respectful and crossed no lines, but reading between the lines of their responses they were very disappointed in how the Romero’s responded to reality.

Given this, the game didn’t sell. All Brenda has to do is look in the mirror to figure out what went wrong.

In their last quarterly report this game shows up in the loser category. Based on how they dropped Imperator this seems to be the way they plan to react to these things. Financial winners get DLC. Financial losers get dropped.

My issue the radio silence on it and they’re still selling expansion 2 implying they plan on delivering it at some point.

I think the only way you’re going to gain traction on this is getting a gaming site like RPS or PCgamer or something like that onto it.
Gotta be a good story there somewhere.

Complaining to Romero wont help and I have my doubts about Paradox either, not like they can say much as they are the publishers. The only way we can get Romero to do something is if the people complaining are putting a legitimate strain on the business and marketing of Romero.

The ship has sailed. It is not coming back. 100% agree.

Please disregard the response given by my agent ><. He got games mixed up and it's not true that the game is what we classify as a legacy game. I don't have more to say on this as I'm not part of the team working on EoS but this was brought to my attention and I wanted to clarify this point to avoid further confusion.

I fully understand that the lack of information is a major sticking point and I really wish I could tell you more alas I don't have anything to share ><. Trust me when I tell you that I'm hounding as many people as I can about this on pretty much a weekly basis as I also want the second DLC to come out (I really enjoy Empire of Sin!) but there's only so much I can do. When there's more information to share I'll shout it from the rooftops unless someone beats me to it.

Any news @TinyWiking ?

In Steam there is no new Information too. Only that you can Pre-Purchase the Expension-Pack 2 or if you have the Season-Pass that it´s already pre-buyed for the Game.

Seems it take longer as expected, esp. when the Devs work with the Unity-Game-Engine. If you all did not know what I mean is following: All Dev-Studios [dosen´t matter you are small, medium or big] and Publishers [the same] which work with Unity have an big Problem, when the Unity-Game-Engine-Company can get enforce their demands.

And that´s not only have an effect on the Dev-Studios / Publishers, it have an Effect to Modders and esp. for us Gamers too. The last ones have to pay more for already existing Games which get programmed with Unity and for Projects which are in WIP incl. the DLCs which comes for that.

And my fear for Empires of Sin get confirmed. It get programmed with Unity. Either the Devs try to switch to an other Game-Engine or hold back the Updates / DLCs until an friendly solution with the Unity-Game-Engine-Company get found.
