Is this game ever going to be updated?

Should i buy the game?

Yeah, make sure to buy the season pass which includes expansion pack #2. It is about to be released soon ...

Don't buy the game, there are still game-breaking bugs in it and the development is dead. The fact that expansion pack 2 is still for sale everywhere while it obviously isn't in development (and never will be developed) is outright scam. This game is one of the very dark patches of PDX history.

Quickly returning to drop my take in here.

So, it's been about what, four months since I created this thread? Now it's got 2k views.

And I'll give you my two cents that one of them, is some Romero employee watching this thread, but can't even open their mouth cause they have some kind of non-disclosure agreement in the company.

I'd understand abandoning a game if it was some indie dev, but we are talking about companies with tens of millions, hundreds even in funding.
Paradox admitted they shelved Imperator. In this case, not a single word. Everyone just vanished. I don't know what on earth is going on in Romero, because the founders don't even want to talk about it when you email them.

I have a horrible feeling this game is gonna get the Imperator treatment. An abandoned game, that nobody talks about and is sidelined as some irrelevant failed project.

It’s still coming soon and folk can still preorder it…

The Nintendo site has it down for June this year now.

I'm certain that will happen. Nothing surer...
If there is one thing that will completely extinguish the candle for this game, it is another delay of the DLC. I already have very little hope left, one more delay and it's pretty certain they are just holding us back.

Imperator suffered the same treatment. Bad launch reception, low player count on launch, and low-selling DLC's caused it to be abandoned. Same as this. Moment a game is emptied dry of it's consumer base, Paradox pulls the plug. They are a public company. They always evolve, they always adapt.

How hard is it to say something... anything?
Seriously, but what I heard is you have companies busy blaming each other that they can't just easily respond. However, Steam members are talking class action lawsuits against companies so I guess we will see where that goes. Be nice to see some response for a game supposedly loved by developers.

And this is the reason for the lack of communication. People who bought the season pass bought two DLCs. They obviously only released one DLC.
So they either wait until the claims are time-barred or until there is no discussion/interest within the community anymore. Either way, it's absolutely despicable business behavior by Paradox. I have bought their games since 2007 and I really like the nerdy attitude by people like Johan who didn't always bring great quality but always great dedication to the table. The quality aspect is still inconsistent, but the company has changed. It's miles away from the nerd-haven it used to be, now it's about metrics, DLC, revenue.

What this leads to is oberservable in Empire of Sin. The game has great potential, a lot of resources were alotted to marketing and of course pre-ordering season passes made sense for a game that would receiver countless DLC. Well, I didn't thought people would ever get scammed by Paradox, but here we are.

It’s standard for there to be a non disclosure clause for when things go awry. So there’s little point in badgering Romero Games as they cannot respond without eliciting legal complications upon themselves.

The buck stops with the publisher, which is Paradox Interactive. Maybe they have people working on the second DLC. One would hope so given it’s still available for pre-order but the silence is deafening.

So I contacted the Paradox Support about this matter, and the attached is the whole reply. If I believe everything I read, the PC version of Empire of Sin is no longer supported, or being developed. But the console version is still being worked on. I guess I will wait more.

Wow crazy. I guess they'll give Steam owners a gift voucher to get something. I don't think they'll get refunds though.
Speculation, could be wrong of course. Interested to see how it plays out.

So this has obviously been known for some time, probably since Romero fell silent, but they didn’t bother letting anyone know and continued to sell it. Which is pretty poor business practice.

Thank you for your effort. The reply I received from customer support a couple of months ago stated that the game/2nd DLC was still in development. I am also not sure why they develop the console version and not the PC version for this. I can only imagine that they don't want to risk any trouble with Microsoft or Sony in the future if they don't provide content that people actually paid for.

For the PC market it's different. I won't be done with a voucher either, because on PC there are countless sources to buy the game and activate it on Steam.

It's an absolute shame that they silently kill the game, leave customers hanging who paid for a 2nd DLC that they will never receive and will never be compensated for...

Above all it's just ridiculous to still sell the version containing the 2nd DLC on Steam knowing very well that this will never be released. This is outright scam, I can't find another word for that. I think this deserves coverage and really taints Paradox' reputation. Also their reluctance to communicate things is troubling.

If it weren't the first time a Pdox game had been silently abandoned, I would be shocked, but unfortunately, it seems more of a trend.

It's a scam. If you paid for something in a pre-order , you should receive the product and people haven't received the product. Where is the refunds? How is it legal to do this? Someone with some legal know-how I hope pursues some legal action.

you don't sell something you don't own.

In fact in real world very often you sell stuff that isn't made yet. Then those orders are what kickstarts the whole business and makes it profitable.

So they say they are going to continue support on the console version. Thing is, what is gonna happen to the PC players who bought DLC 2? We are just going to be left in the dust? I originally played this game on PC, and I am not going to buy a console just to play this game. I think they are just gonna release DLC 2 and make an abandonment notice, and that will be it for Empire of Sin. If they don't, the big console companies are gonna get mad at them for not giving shit they are owed to.
