After playing vanilla EU3, I returned to EU3 after buying HttT. My first game as Venice so far:

Started from "the new world" year in 1492 and immediately began building up the trade empire. The Knigths left trade league on startup so I declared war on them just before the expiration of CB to get some army and navy tradition and prestige. Got mixed in a war with Castille, because Knigths were in their "sphere of Influence". Bad results...

Ok reload from the last save.

So the trade empire of Venice grows in peace and soon most of the available countries are in the leagues. The coffins of Venice are full of wealth. Time to gain some prestige. The army and navy are quickly built to support limit. Where to? Ah, I have CB on Genoa (Trade wars). And they are only allied with some german minors. To WAR! ... Austrian armies overrun me. Forgot about the HRE.

Ok reload from the last save.

Venice builds up in peace, until called to arms by an ally. War with Tuscany! Yes, time to get some excersice for my troops. (but before, just in case, save the game). 17k army lands in the tuscany, conquers a province and continues on to capitol. The 10k army of tuscany easily defend the mountain passes and push my army back to coast... and almost completely destroys it there.

Ok reload from the last save.

So, concentrating on building up the trade empire. For years the merchants of Venice gather wealth. Until... The Ottomans get into war with France and Mameluks. Now its time for some real expansion (waiting a bit first though to get army and navy on track and let the war exhaust the ottomans)! Crusade against the infidels are declared and Ottomans receive an assault from 40k of venetian troops in greece and bosnia. (But before save the game, just in case). After a couple of cities had fallen the ottomans make peace with Mameluks, turn west and with the help of their crimean allies defeat the armies of Venice in a bloody massacre.

Ok reload from the last save.

(save the game) The mighty armies of Venice gloriously conquer the evil empire of Ragusa and with flags flying return to Venice in glorious parade.

Seriously: How many of you play this through without save game cheating and may call the experience too easy??

Edit: And does anyone play this without using save game exploit at all?

1399 Start

I: Choose Austria
II: Become Emperor and start enacting reforms
III: Bribe all Catholics that border HRE to 150+ Relations (so they join the HRE).
...
IV: Circa 1500 - inherit all Catholic nations (including Spain, France, Poland, Sweden... ALL of them) except Britain (due to the Channel preventing HRE spread) and a few minors who declare war on me.

I hope for a nerf.

Coffers, man, coffers! :)

Playing as VEN it can be a good idea to join the HRE early. That way you can fight against small HRE members, as the Emp doesn't get called between members if they have a valid CB. Aside form that it seems pretty reasonable TUS defeated you in the mountains and the OE crushed you, although in the OE's case you should be able to use your navy to cut them in half and then invade whichever side their army isn't on.

I'd say read my AAR for VEN action, but it's without pics due to bandwidth restrictions. Might be worth a glance anyway though.

Like I said in another thread, he'll refuse if you have 8 or more BB or are larger than him. The Emperor is very insecure about his size.

Don´t reload you coward!

Loosing a war is part of the game!! You disgust me, do you also reload when the AI nations make bad decisions? no?
then how can you call yourself a better player than even some random stupid computer ai. you are cheating to the worst all the time, just to get a victory after another. thats pathetic.

If you where a man you would accept loosing a war, and try to gain your losses back in the next one.

Im no moderator but you are getting a bit out of the line here.

First off: have you read his title and his message?? He doenst think HT³ is too easy, its contrary!
second: everyone can play how they please, whether they reload or not is not up to you.
Third: its his first HT³ game. He tried some things. It actually makes sense to discover what the AI is capable of.

Im just glad that he did what he did so we can all learn from it.

I dont know where the Problem, i love the new gameplay, by the way - i which it would be harder than in HTT!

For example, there should be the option that states of the HRE get a war cause for nations that attack nation inside the Empire, and the Option that the emperor call other land for help, controlling units from other allied nations and make war taxes for the whole allied empire.
There should be a option to call allies after the war has start.
And there should be the option to choose which nation to question for a war, and which not (like in empire total war).

Than it would be the best Game ;) and 1-4 more political options.

At this moment, the game is ok. I play on very hard with austria and killed 2 nations, after that every nation in the holy roman empire declared me war, including my allies, which just brocke alliance and attacked.

I was in war with 1 every (realy every) HRE state, except my vasalls.
I was in war with ottoman (an 4 allies)
I was in war with hungary
I was in war with moscau
I was in war with Polski
I was in war with Boehmia
I was in war with France
I was in war with Britain

and more than 4-5 other states.

And i have to aggree, it was extremly hard, but i played the war 3 hours without giving up and without reloading. Just played and played, killed 1 little nation one after the second and just defended.
Ok, after a time i hade to give up for france, i created the netherlands for them. But the territory i lost vs france was´t important, cause i won maybe twice of the territory in the war vs the HRE, annexed big parts of bavaria and from other states in the empire.
In the end, i was the winner - so i am still at hopeing that there will be a next addon with new diplomatic futures, which make the game more hard.

It all depends on how you play it.. Playing the game in MP really helps in getting better at it.
In HttT you can avoid a conflict with the emperor when DOWing a member state by using the new CBs. Example: when a nation has a weak claim (see thumbnail on top of the screen) you can claim their throne when having a RM. Then you'll get a CB which makes it possible to DOW them without experiencing the wrath of the emperor.

I never reload when something goes wrong as it just seems wrong.. Solving problems is a big part of the fun imo. Where's the fun if you can't loose?
I started my first HttT as Gelre because I like starting as an OPM close to the purple and blue blob :D. I didn't have much time yesterday so I only managed to play 10 years. Sofar I gobbled up Utrecht and Friesland because they both DOWed me one after another. My goal is to unify the Netherlands and then play a purely diplomatic game in order to unite the HRE with clean infamy.

Ignore me if those were just general tips, but the OP was talking about Venice. They don't start in the HRE so the Emp is called even if they have a valid CB. They're also a Republic, so they can't claim thrones.

I never reload exploits when playing a game, especially not Paradox games (yeah not even RPG games). For me losing battles, losing wars or having bad luck in general is part of the game that makes it more fun in the long run. On top of that I use strict houserules or my own modified files mostly because I think my rules are better than Paradoxes but also because I want an even harder experiance. :D Only time I load up a saved game is either when the computer crashed or when I come home from work. ;)

I don't mind anyone else using save game exploits... why would I? Everyone should play the game as they wish to maximize their own enjoyment of it.

Ok.. Just a question (and perhaps a little more)..

First and second reloads. Doesn't the game warns about who may intervene when starting a war anymore?
3. Mountains are really good defensive terrain now and together with the no-morale-wipeout that's something that could happen. It's just a part of the game and you can benefit from it the same way that the AI can.. Plan your wars better next time.
4. You got owned by a stronger enemy while not using the good tactics available yo you? Uhhhmm... That seems extremely logical... What's your problem with that? Or do you just think that the player should have a free pass to win every war he starts?

So, once your character/party dies in some RPG, you start anew? :eek:o

Anyhow, I think reloading to fix mistakes can be a good position to learn from if you are somewhat new (to EU3)/ want to test out different features - esp. when playing a OPM :p
Reloading to avoid the consequences of your accumulated infamy, now thats hiding from responsibility, but hey, you're not married to that game session, are you?

Thanks darkrenown for good tips. This is my first game on EU for years, so its basically a game of "learning how the system works".

Point of the story was : HttT is very hard when playing small countries and AI seems to be very efficient. I am positively surprised by this. I was, and still are, curious of how many of the players use save-game exploiting as I see from my short experience that playing this through with a minor will be a real challenge.

There should be a poll option available in the forums, really.
