Im orange Terran empire
just won a war with the help Adjex Assembly (grey guys above me.) so what ive done is used the play command to offer them a trade deal. My 3 newly conquered systems up to left in exchange for his two systems at the bottom eswiuq & Ferragon.

The 3 planets im offering are all bigger than the two im getting and have more in system stations
Both our empires benefit greatly from condensing our holdings and hot having them protruding into anothers territory.

The AI in this game will not trade systems ever - Wiz i think said it had to do with fears of humans taking advantage and exploiting an AI in multiplayer games or the AI just not handling the concept well..

Anyway my mate says im cheating by doing this but i dont think i am. Its a terrible deal for me i just did it for aesthetic purposes and also its strategically logical for our empires to look like this - the borders post system trade - http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=900058964

I get im using the console so its cheating but my argument is because its negative its not cheating.
Say you installed a mod for a game that increased enemy accuracy/damage/costs and also increased by build time by 100% and cost by 100% - thats not cheating because its makes it harder for the player right?

My argument is the same the 3 systems i gave away in exchange for 2 was a loss. i only did it cause OCD / i hate uneven borders sorry for roping you guys into this but need others to way in on our argument :) thanks

Cheating is still cheating. Penalizing yourself to compensate doesn't make it any less so. Still, it is your choice to do it or not, and as long as it is singleplayer, it doesn't matter if you are.

Do IRL sovereign nations on the planet earth frequently change inhabitated territories just to shorten borders? Would US exchange detroit for Vancouver and whole pacific coast to establish link between Alaska and the main land?

At this point I bet USA would give Detroit for free if Canada was willing to accept it.

Referendums to change border territories aren't that rare at all.

@Topic
If it's a single-player game I would say my buddy that I don't care about his opinion.

If multi-player I would ask beforehand if it's okay or not and then go after that as it is not a normal game mechanic.

Weird that you actually mention Alaska, as the US bought it from the Russian Empire.

I abuse the hell out of the console in the name of fairness. The rules will always be too stodgy to perfectly reflect reality, and Paradox inexplicably keeps putting in more roadblocks than necessary to slow down the type of folk out to "fairly" break the game anyway.

Well, the rules of the game are there. You are technically cheating by breaking those rules, regardless of whether or not you're being fair about it. What you're doing isn't necessarily bad by any means, but you should accept that you are still breaking the rules set by the game, and therefore cheating.

There is no such thing as "cheating" in a sp game. It all depends how you wish to proceed. MP is a different kettle of fish.
Sure there is. There's just not nearly as much wrong with it. What you do in the privacy of your own home is not my concern.

I do not look at it as cheating. The game mechanics make for a well reasoned and otherwise beneficial deal to be rejected.

After WWI, a large amount of land was divided up and given to various states. The land was not barren or uninhabited, but carved out from wars. The USA purchased a massive area of territory from France that wasn't uninhabited.

But, it's single player... so what does it matter? Cheating. Not cheating. Who cares. If it makes logical sense to you, rock on.

thanks for the replies guys. I just do it because i think the AI should be able to trade planets - if you gift an AI either an independent or one of your vassels you will always get a + 100 relations bonus for good trade deal, So if you could select the AI's planets in change for yours the AI would accept he deal cause 1. getting three for two and 2. Distance from captial will be reduced (effects unrest) so in my mind i was just "fixing" an omission in the games trading system but i see im in the minority on this one ha

Hahaha no. We don't want that place.

Hold up. We might want to trade Quebec, the whole GD Province, to them, if Detroit was empty when we got it... Make a great Canadian DYI project... ;)
