Is this a correct approach to essentially put a single weapon type (kinetic, energy, missile) ...

...but maximize the said weapon ?

My ''starting'' Blackjack have been stripped of every weapon but a single AC20 ++ gun for instance, which lead to extremely complex and intricate battlefield approaches, such as ''jump jet behind and one shot them

Well..it's a gamble. One weapon can be taken out and then you have none. You could run out of ammo. Or not have direct line of sight. However you do have advantages. I believe there is a pilot skill for firing only one weapon so that's going to help. If you added more armor you'll also take a lot more punishment. And one a Blackjack an AC20 can be VERY mobile and like you said one shot tons of things, as no mech really has the back armor to take more than 2 rounds from that kind of weapon. I think it's doable; this game is great in that it lets us build anything and try it out. Just make sure to give your pilot the skills that maximize the approach, you may wish to train one of them exclusively for your OneJack.

My 7ml 6sl Grasshopper was my best heavy. Jump jet behind a Target and unleash hell.

3ac5 Jager was tons of fun with multitarget and breaching shot.

2ac10 K2 was dope.

Most of my other Mechs though we're mixed with acs + lasers, or missiles + lasers.

*Edit, so back to the OP, i'd say both are viable. Mixed will probably need multishot though to maximize the loadout.

Its viable, just depends on what you want to do. I would say that the Blackjack doesnt have enough armor and hit points to engage at that range but that may not be an issue for you yet. Also, 100 damage, 40 stability wont carry you for long. You will eventually need more oomph either with a beefier mech or with weapons that have bonuses and/or more specialized weapons (either damage or stability focus).

If you are still in the medium phase, shadowhawk, wolverine, and kintaro all offer faster movement, more armor and you can mount more JJ's if you want for even more manouverbility. I used the Kintaro pretty much to near end game (I am at the point of no return in my game). The shadowhawk was excellent as well.

But like any game, you will eventually need an upgrade. Lots of good heavies out there but the prize of the bunch is the Grasshopper. I got one very early, almost by accident since I had no idea what I was doing, and it nearly trivialized the game. Lots of good heavies though, quickdraw and dragon are excellent scouts (to replace mediums) and I still use an Orion at end game along with a Grasshopper and two assault mechs. I hear good things about the black knight but I dont have one. I used a thunderbolt for a while before I got the Orion.
