so playing a game and there is a decent sized fanatical purger with about 10 systems on my border. he lost his last war with one of the AI's and im worried he is going to be attacked again. This guy has kept the peace between me and and a 50 system evan zelauts by reducing border tension so to give him time to rebuild i decided to guarantee the independence of the purger so i could continue to focus my efforts on the other side of my space (the fan purger basically occupies a small corridor of space between to FA's so its in my best interest to keep him there)

War was declared against the empire i had guaranteed independence but the borders where still sealed to me. so i am in a war- where my ships cant assist without going all around the core and coming in from "behind" to help liberate those worlds

anyway - is it a glitch - when you are allies in a war even if they are fanatical purgers - 900 should borders always be open to allies?
or is it working as intended and its my own fault for guranteing something for an empire that hates me?
thanks

I think guaranteeing the fanatical purifier's independence was the wrong move here. I think this may be working as intended, because you cant deny someone from guaranteeing your independence. Essentially, you were trying to use the hostility of another empire, to gain access to the territory of yet another empire that hates you. I think the fanatical purifiers (and the game itself) acted accordingly, here. They don't want you in their space, even if it means they will get stomped by another bigger adversary, and the game didn't force them to open borders to you.
