According to the Curators I've surveyed a system that has the Automated Dreadnought guardian in it (I can ask them about it) and I have no idea where it is. Is there any way to tell where they are in the galaxy?

Thanks

Sharing Starmaps tends to break that up. However, usually the names of Special Systems are fixed. So you might still be able to localise it.

Pause the game, open the console and type /observe

Then open the empire screen and set the filter options to other, this will show you what guardians you have on the map.

Then turn the details for systems such as system recourse in the galaxy map off and move your camera round and check system by system, some guardians have a unique squid like icon to indicate their presence, others don't however so it will take a while to find them, but I'm afraid there's no other way currently.

Use /play 0 to regain control of your empire.

I checked the files a bit. Most Guardian Systems do not get a special name. It mostly picks a random system with the proper starclass.

Sellarite at any rl_dwarf_stars
Ether Drake must be at a K-class star.
Dimensional Horror must be around a blackhole
Automated Dreadnought can be around any kind of star.
Hivers are around a rl_standard_stars class (but the minerals are usually the best giveaway).
Enigmatic Fortress always at a sc_a class star
Wraith is always at a pulsar.

However:
Technosphre is always in "Gargantua".
Ether Drake System always has a Planet called "Hoard".

The core issues is that you get Basic survey data (been there at least once), without also getting the 'sensor shadow' of what was seen in there (the Guardian).
With Observation Post and Pre-FTL spacestations getting thier own symbol, that might change however.

I just went through the System Initialisers and update the wiki with them. While the Starclass is rather random, the Automated Dreadnough always has a size 16 and a size 20 habitable planet in it's system. http://www.stellariswiki.com/Spaceborne_aliens#Automated_Dreadnought

My problem with leviathans is that often they are destroyed by other empires before I can encounter them...:(

:/

Then I have to say you are either extremely unlucky or you're probably not playing as well as others (no offence intended), but I personally find it extremely easy even on highest difficulty to snatch them all up first, with exception of roaming leviathans (which are much weaker normally anyway)

Try turning the difficulty down and turning the number of empires down. They may help your situation :)

I suppose that it depends on the number of empires...usually I play with 600 starts 22 empires 6 advanced stars 4 Fallen Empries.
Usually I encounter the Enigmatic Fortress and the Infinite Machine, sometimes the Stellar Drake. In my last game The Curators told me of the existence of the Hivers but when I mustered a fleet in their system they've been already wiped out. In another game I pursued the Wraith until it entered Fallen Empire space...obvuously it never emerged again.

Never saw Stellarite, Automated dreadnaught or Dimensional horror. Maybe I'm just unlucky.
