I am reformed Germanic King of Novgorod (all vassals as well)
Novgorod almost fully upgraded
4-5k troops + vassals (on screenshots it's 2k but because I've just had a war)

I have a problem cause Khazaria has became HUGE, enormous thus I can't move east.

I am looking for suggestions how to continue this game? Where should I expend?

You should pray next dlc gives more options to play tall, something that CK2 really needs! :)

Playing "tall" in CK2 means putting loyal people in position of power, caring about your relations with everybody around, gathering wealth, either through trade, raiding, tributaries or intrigue and then spending it on buildings, investing in further development and valuable alliances. And I would say that CK2 provides plenty of opportunities to do so. Its not the Devs fault that people are obsessed with world conquest and even put it before having fun.

Go for Business Focus to make a lot of money, fast, to hire Mercenaries should Khazaria attack you. Keep a 500-gold threshold.
Expand into Balticum. Richer provinces than expanding into Finland.

I feel like I do that and still end up doing conquest to fill in the time. I'm trying to do a run that focuses primarily on proselytizing to "win".

I really like the societies I've tried, although Hermetic is a bit frustrating (I'm not used to failing a mission so much).

I’m curious how you are supposed to beat nomads in battle. What army composition is going to give someone the best shot to defeat them soundly?

You don’t necessarily need to fight the Khazars to expand east. If he gave the land to a vassal clan all you need to do is get him to break free and you can grab some land from the independent vassal. So, park a diplomat on the vassal to hurt his relationship with liege, Try and find an eligible youngin with ambitious or go steal one and raise them ambitious (but don’t culture change them) and give him as much prestige you can so he will inherit. Or go on a killing spree until the right guy gets the job.

If you are playing with unstable nomad inheritance you can break things up with enough murder

I agree entirely with everything you say, but more opportunities to play tall are always better. I am not accusing the devs of failing with the game design, only adding my voice to make them develop the part that I enjoy most in the game.

With hoarse lords nomads can be defeated pretty easily since they tend to have few holdings in their entire realm. Depending on where the capital and the capitals of their vassals are (and if they have conquered any tribal/feudal lands, because that makes this strategy much harder) you might be able to sweep in while they're distracted with some other war, occupy the nomad capitals and win the war with little effort. If that doesn't work, attack the baltics. I pray whoever reformed the germanic faith chose Sons of Ragnarok, because then you could just raid all of Europe and North Africa until you can hire all of the mercs in the world and slap the MLP fandom.

Another option (with Sons of Ragnarok) is to just say "screw it all" and plan an invasion of say England, and then relocate there and abandon Novgorod.

Yes someone else reformed it.

However, since I've ruined previous game with settings as people mentioned upthere, I've decided to start a new game, reform slavic faith.

I really enjoy this one.

Can you tell me is it possible to backup Iron Mode save file? Do I loose achievements ability then?

Hoards fall apart pretty easily into smaller realms. You can help that process by killing the leader if you can.

This. In my current game I saw a Magyar horde conquer Pannonia, Bulgaria, and a big part of the steppe. I was like “Well this is going to ruin things,” but it fell back apart into smaller kingdoms after about 10 years.
