I ask this because I just played Naxos 5-6 times who starts with an 18 year old ruler, but in each game he never lived to see past 23 due to some random death (thus the restarts due to regency stalls and low legitimacy affecting Dip Rep for independence alliances). I did not even roll him out to be general.

I suspect so. Might be confirmation bias, but I see same happening with Burgundy a lot.

Then again, if you play the nation yourself, you shouldn't get some invisible rules firing.. So probably just bad luck.

I think it was confirmed that a ruler rolled out as a general, even idle, is subject to some RNG death roll. Everytime I play Burgundy, Phillip usually doesn't last more than a couple a years before some instant death comes about.

IDK. I've had the most horrible time playing Naxos all day. Whether I use the good ol' Knights/Cyprus strat to get Constantinople or move into one of Venice's Lombard territories on opening, a bunch or crappy events and/or diplomatic problems just keep proc'ing. It's like something is telling me to Naxos is cursed.

I'm probably going to play a Poland game to ease off my most 9th rage quit :(

I'm almost certain that the Burgundian inheritance event chain will actually forcibly kill the ruler of Burgundy under the appropriate circumstances.

As far i remember, if you make your ruler general and he is idle, it add some % death chance and if its active general on of your units the % death chance increase even higher..

From my own experience, have a general king active alone does not increase the chance of death. However, if you put him in charge a a small merc unit and walk it back and forth in native lands constantly fighting does drastically increase his mortality rate. Putting him in charge of a siege also helps, but for some reason you get a bonus -1 stab hit for siege deaths on top of the normal -1 for death

edit: let me elaborate: you king has a chance to die each month. Make him a general will add another chance (whether he is idle or not). Put him in charge of a siege adds a third chance (but hurts stab more than usual), as well as being in combat will also add a chance for every day in combat

except when he's a general when he get an extra roll for death...
Always remember: RANDOM really means RANDOM!
"The nature of intelligence is to find patterns. From those patterns our mind attempts to infer rules. And those rules are the basis of intelligence. "

In math class, we used to "study" the randomness of event by forming in group of 3 persons, 1 person in Team A, 1 person in team B and 1 person as the referee/dealer
First we would play head/tail game, head team A win, Tail team B win, we would start by 1 game, 10 games, 100 games... in the end what we can observe is that most group would have a score around 40-60 for each team then you would see one team at 25-75... then the teacher would simply take that team and ask them to throw another 100 times the coin only to find out that the 25-75 was now a 80-120, another 100 times after, it became closer to 50/50 with a score around 140-160 which is near the real odds of a coin... it means with infinite prossibilities, the score will always reach out very very close to 50/50

So when a dev tells you it's random, THEN IT'S RANDOM!

don't try to find pattern to it.

you get a 6/5/6 ruler he die one month after? odd are probably 1 in a few millions... instead of winning 50 millions at the lotto, you got screwed at europa universalis.
live with it....
:)
