Here's how it works

We offer the demo exclusively to a site, in return we get exposure for the game and an extra boost on the site and they get to offer their readers added value content.

All traffic for the demo and the game space adds to the ranking and popularity of the game = distributors and retailers look at the ranking when they decide what games to pick up for their stores = high rankings means more stores carry it = more gamers can get access to it = increased sales = more opportunities to develop and sell other Grand Strategy games in the future.

So all in all its a win - win situation that really benefits our releases. The exclusive is only for breaking the demo, after that it will be spread on other sites. However, it will help our purposes if everyone here brings some initial traffic to Gamespot

This whole thread reminds me why I love Paradox and their games.. despite being not too unsuccessful by now and having some quite popular games out there, even actually publishing many more, they have never lost touch with the "base", meaning the forum regulars and players in general. I mean, has anyone ever seen someone from another company hint at a demo release without outright announcing it just by dropping into a fan discussion?
Really, keep that up and I'll keep buying Paradox games until I have to do so from my grave in 80 years

Maybe send in the future some informations to german game magazines like Gamestar and PCGames, I have not seen a single information about EU: Rome in them. It even does not appear in the Release List, but every crappy game out there does...

Ah, that's the reason why I don't buy these magazines anymore. The casual German player just has no appreciation for true depth...
But yes, I agree with Seelensturm - there would be a much larger market in Germany if Paradox did a little more publicity here.

Yeah, I don't trust sites that do business with the companies they're supposed to critique. With Paradox games, I'm usually safe with reading what the fans say on the boards.

A shame I didn't wait to buy Diplomacy, though. Ah well. It would have been nice if a few hundred thousand more had bought a copy.

Yep. Torrents, whatever you noble, pure souls use them for, are also used to cheat some companies of their money. And I'm far from a tyrannical corporatist apologist, but I acknowledge the need to see the hard-working folks in the industry well-paid for their efforts.

I can understand that a company might be reluctant to use torrents because of the bad image the format has got. Still, P2P-Downloads can save a company a lot of money for bandwidth with good download speed.
On the other hand, though, Paradox does not have any bandwidth problem for the demo at least, since it's being hosted by Gamespot. So it is not really in their interest (plus, there is a deal with Gamespot about the mentioned exclusive release) to have it distributed over BitTorrent.
