That is how a few days ago I 'fortunately' got rid of him early on(as in 10 ten years into the campaign) while I was fighting the half dozen countries France called into the HYW so I could enforce the union. If it wasn't for Portugal finally accepting the CTA I might have abandoned the attempt and started another.
Also only being a general and fighting battles affect death chance and very little at that so don't bother with the naval tricks.

Make him a general, give him one unit of troops, then leave him besieging a random province. Good luck.

got called into a sweden independence war and left him sieging skáne, he thankfully popped at 46 and found a child from the reeds to boot.
