Is there any way to fix the horrible Badboy problem when playing as Prussia

I tried it, but didn't work. Lowered it from 55 to 45, 35, and 15, and they were still declaring war at 15. What is the reason behind this?

Well, since we're already talking about editing save files, why not just try editing yourself a lot of Diplomatic Action points, and continuously seek to improve relations with the ones that keep DoW-ing you. Get the relations up, plus lowered BB points, surely that would keep them from doing it. Unless, it's just programmed somewhere...

You can have high relations with another country and it will still declare war on you if your BB is bad enough. I just finished a game as Prussia, and I think you get about 40+ poitns for the unification event. If it's like EU2, then any score greater than 10 is not going to be good, and once you near 15 then you're likely to get BB wars; I'm not too sure of those values but a BB of about 15 is still fairly significant. I lowered it to 1 and then people left well enough alone for a while.

What I have noticed, in two games I've played (USA and Prussia) is that there hits a certain point when I stop getting inventions. I research things - like Infiltratin, for example - but then I don't get the invention trigger. It isn't listed when I highlight the research item. As the USA this happened fairly early; I never got Aeroplanes, electric gear, automobiles, etc; but that was 1.00. In this last game (1.02) then I got as far as getting aeroplanes and electric gear, but I never got some things like HQ attachments or tanks, despite having the requisite technology. :-/

I've wondered about those events, too. I wonder if it matters when you save, how often you quit, and the come back later, etc. Would it be best to play non-stop? Or does the game need to be refreshed periodically? I normally never play more a decade at a time - if that. The events seem to be working OK, but how do I know I'm getting 100% of all the ones I should be getting?

The AI probably considers relations, army strength AND BB at less then the Badboy war value.

So, reduce your badboy in the save to 30, but also have a big army built, and very good relations before the event kicks in...

I think army streagnths do have a factor in relations and keeping any par country like yourselkf at bay, its like a deterent, but dont take my word for it, I have seen so that when i have a larger army no country really DoW's willingly lol

So try raising your military, dont know if youll be bale to maintain such high numbers but worth a try, id say 102 devisions should do it  or more :D

You are concentrating too much on army and industrial techs. Some of the inventions for the later techs do not show up before a certain date - for instance, even if you have maxed out your army techs, you can't get bolt action rifles before 1900, or machine guns prior to 1880. This is probably to keep the game from extremely ahistorical things like tanks being used in the USCW.

Spread out your research some. If you don't concentrate on just one or two areas and you don't trade aggressively for techs, you should be able to keep your research productive throughout the campaign.

I wasn't doing either of those things. I got Infiltration in 1910, I think, and no tanks.

I also don't trade aggressively. In fact, I am consistently behind the AI in the amount of techs I have. The only thing I did in my Prussia game was neglect naval techs entirely.

I know about the deathdates and such for techs, but if you get absolutely no inventions between 1880 and 1916, then something else is wrong.

Did you somehow lose all your prestiege? Inventions don't fire if it's negative.

Nope, Prestige was in the upper 2000s for the latter part of the game, trailing just behind 'er Majesty the Queen. (god attack the Queen! viscous dogs, viscous dogs! ...ahem.)

I'll start up a GB or US game after I'm done with my current bout of HoI and see if I can pinpoint exactly where I stop getting invention triggers. Since I've never seen the late-game inventions, is it a safe assumption that almost every tech should have a couple invention triggers?

If I may be ever so humble, let me direct you to my Techtionary (link in sig) if you wish to get an overview of techs, inventions and the connections between them.

I had a similar problem as the Netherlands. I had all the prerequisites for DN's completed and was simply waiting for their fire date, all other naval techs were researched by the turn of the century. It's now 1915 and I still can only build battleships.
