I mean, at the moment it's very similar as it was at launch, which is too much random and too little geological calculations, making a map which just looks absolutely arbritrary in its mountains and geography. Personally, at least, the random new world function is practically unusable to the implausible shaped maps, Not sure if anyone else actually uses it with any frequency.

And I don't think it's asking for too much, especially considering the realistic qualities of a mod like this http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...CoP-Haftetavenscrap-s-Realistic-Map-Generator which makes much much better and more reasonable maps.(although a bit more jagged)

Basically the current random generator just seem to make blobs of flatland and then add a mountain range or two on it, at completely arbitrary locations as far as i can tell

No one uses it, and its a dead feature, turns out making NA and SA more detailed is more important than making it random.

Well it was kinda dumb to even include it to begin with then, wasted work and so on. Not to mention misleading as a feature of CoP

I use it occasionally as light relief from the "known unknowns" map and thus the major yawn technique used by every colonizer: (a) Bully Portugal, take Azores and Cape Verde; (b) win. No idea if the random map works well in AOW, have to try some time.

Yes the map generator is garbage. What also bothers me is that it always produces separate islands, whereas in the real world the Americas are joined, creating a separate region for European colonization and Asian colonization (historically by Russia, but I always like going for it with Brunei). This is gone when you randomly generate the map.

Obviously random means random, but I wish that once in a while it would create a contiguous land mass too.
