Someone really should make a mod with an 1870 start. From 1870 to 1910 would be a pretty good timeframe. The Franco-Prussian War, the Boer War, the Russo-Japanese War... it was a really interesting period in history. The Victoria games are fine, but I think a Darkest Hour mod would also work wonderfully for this period. If anyone wants to make a mod like this, I'd be happy to contribute. I can make SKIF-style icons, write some events, create ministers and leaders, and research a lot of the history. I can't edit the map to save my life, though.

You have to ask yourself something.
With a 1870 scenario, the most advanced countries would have 1870 INF. What would have less advanced countries?
The underlying answer would be that you will have to rewrite entirely the technology trees, and not only for INF.

I don't think that would be that big a problem. At the start of the mod, all countries would simply have 1870 INF. This could be compensated by having advanced countries upgrade to newer models faster than less advanced ones.

I do remember ages ago a mod maybe for this, possibly for HoI2 that wanted to do a 1870-71 battle scenario. I think I even started working on the ministers/leaders for them too. Never got off the ground. I'd be up for helping out if anyone ever wanted to do a 19th century mod, but alas, my skills are limited to the db side (ministers/leaders etc).

Well, the point of starting the mod in 1870 is to also include the Franco-Prussian War, which would be pretty interesting, as it's a battle between the Germans and the French that's not related to the two World Wars.

I'm currently too committed to the Fatherland mod to kickstart this, but if anyone does decide to start it, I'd be willing to contribute in any way possible.
