is there an easy way to increase imperial authority. i have a savegame and would like to know how to modify the iimperial authority in the savegame

I would recommend adding provinces to the empire (and if you can, release vassals on that territory)

Every added province +1 IA
Every released prince +10 IA

It's also good to liberate the princes of the empire

For example,

Parma, Siena, Pisa, Hamburg, Tirol, Styria, Corsica are some that at start doesn't exist, liberating these would give you +70 IA

Someone formed the HRE in around 7 years by getting IA from becoming Orthodox, converting 12 nations to the new true faith, and switching back to Catholic and repeating.

Conquering silesia, then release it (with bohemia). Or just use liberation cb on everyone.

You don't lose IA if an imperial country is annexed by another imperial member. You do, however, get a tasty CB :p
So with that case you can conquer - release silesia every 5 years.

Don't you get a relationship hit when you change religion? How are you going to pass reforms that way?
Yes you will get a relationship hit. And that guy who did it in 7 years, he didn't switch to orthodox. That would take to much time. There was a thread made some days ago about how he did it.

Actually you can conquer and release Silesia ca. every 3 months. If you promote cultural unity in Breslau it is just a tiny OPM.
By diplo-annex? Because through war is impossible, unless you want the -5 stab for breaking truce.

and in that thread he described switching to orthodox, converting several countries for the IA and then converting back to catholic.

Are you are sure? I asked Pewt recently. When you switch religion by peace treaty you wont get a relationship hit. That's the trick. I am not sure if this is cheating because in reality this would have an HUGE impact of everything in the HRR, but it's with the game mechanics.

This is the thread, posting #97 give the answer how you can make all reforms in 7 years.

In #23 he said he didn't convert.

That would only give ~200 authority (since it's very hard to pass reforms while most of the empire is the wrong religion, so most of the authority would be wasted) and would probably cost more diplomats and wartime than you can do in 7 years.

If imperial princes are annexed while imperial authority is at 0, then imperial authority will not go down. That way, say, 10 princes become annexed by various countries, then you liberate them all for 100 authority; it is then easy to pass 2 reforms. Lather, rinse, repeat.
