I'm a very inexperienced modder, and I wanted to make some countries have different colours on the game map. Is this easy to do?

You need to edit this country.csv file which is located in the db folder.

Open it with notpad...and you should be able to edit each country's color ...

In following example I will change Afganistan's color which is white and Albania's color which is darkbrown.
AFG;White;ENG;ENG;;;;X
ALB;DarkBrown;ENG;ITA;;;;X

AFG;DarkBrown;ENG;ENG;;;;X
ALB;White;ENG;ITA;;;;X

Perhaps after you get familiar with this procedure...you might want to edit the predefined colors and add a few colors of your choice.

This is done by editing the coloscale.csv file located in map1 subfolder in your map folder...using notepad...

Alter the numbers below to edit the predefined Black color.
Black;;;
red;green;blue;index
85;85;85;0
75;75;75;20
50;50;50;40
1;1;1;64

Or just edit one of 6 the extra user colors

UserColor1;;;
red;green;blue;index
0;192;212;0
25;160;176;20
25;128;140;40
1;1;1;64
