For example, in my mod I have Anglo-Saxon England as an Agnatic / Elective monarchy and its four titular duchies (Wessex, Mercia, Northumbria and East Anglia) as Agnatic-Cognatic / Gavelkind. I've then set all of England's de jure duchies (none of which exist until Cornwall in 1328) to be this:

Code:
1066.1.1={
	law = cognatic_succession
	law = succ_primogeniture
}

So aside from Cornwall that's the only text in those duchies' files because none of them should exist unless created in-game.

The problem is that whenever a new duchy (or kingdom) is formed, even if I've specified it that, it will form with the succession type of the person / title that created it. So for example Harold Godwinesson often creates the duchy of Bedford, which will form Agnatic / Elective because that's what England is.

I'd really like to change this -- is it possible (maybe I've missed something obvious) or would I have to request such a feature for 1.06?

I think that created title sucession laws follow the sucession law of primary title of Creator. Thus you will have to ask for it in 1.06.

Maybe my game is bugged, then, because while this is how I remember it working before, it's not doing this for me. I started as the Count of Orvieto in my most recent game (1.05c), worked my way up to Duke of Capua, Salerno, Calabria, and Sicily while still under the Papacy. Switched to elective succession to avoid gavelkind, since the King of Sicily couldn't get his CA above Medium for decades.

When I finally usurped the kingdom title, I still held all the ducal titles, and expected the kingdom title to be elective. Somehow, it automatically switched over to primogeniture instead. Shortly after I handed out my excess ducal titles, I got a flurry of messages about who had been elected the successor for all sorts of titles, including at the county and duchy level. To complicate matters just a bit more, I've made the titular Kingdom of Naples my primary title, although the Laws screen still shows the crown laws under the Sicilian CoA (but then again, that actually makes sense...).

TL;DR: switched from an elective multi-duchy to a primogeniture kingdom, still getting elective messages regarding my vassal county and duchy titles.

Happened to me as well in my first game which was under 1.04. Well it wasn't that bad because i only had a few duchy in my possession before become king, but still had all the pesky messages all the time.

There was an event series in DVIP to handle Holy Orders that turned feudal. You might want to look at that for inspiration, and know that you can change the laws of any titleholder by event, presumably, just like you can raise or lower crown authority by event. Something I'll get around to eventually.
