Say for example I want to start as one of the great dynasties of the later start dates, but as an obscure count in an earlier date, is there a way to do this? Perhaps a mod?

Some of the later shields are awesome, I notice each one has an inaccessible unique number when you cycle through the base designs in the heraldry customiser. It would great if you could cycle through the unique ones at the end as well, perhaps use it if the family currently doesn't yet exist in your game.

There are CoA expander mods that unlock the shields for you to choose during character creation.

Can you use it to change your dynasty's CoA without changing the checksum ?
I believe you can if you have the other editor DLC. You can do that without mods too if you want to customize your COA in an achievement/ironman game, but you can't opt into the special dynasty shields.
