I think kinsman is the safest "distance". Kinsman referes to someone who is further away in the family than cousin. However currently I play as the King of Castille and I discovered much later that I actully married my cousin and my king has atleast 5 children and none have the inbred trait.

Well, yes, that's true. But I usually always go to free investiture when I am able to... guess I forgot you had to switch to that first.

Cousins and aunts as wives seem safe.

Incest seems to be wincest in this game. I take the risk as I don't want outsiders with claims on my land.

Sometimes I do this in later game when my dynasty has way more prestige then any other dynasty mostly because it happened a lot in histories that the glorious dynasties started breeding cousins together or closer. AI commonly marries second cousins in my dynasty and sometimes first.

I play with marry_anyone, and am sometimes tempted to marry twins of opposing genders. As Capiatlist said, my tree is looking more like a pole rather than a, say, conifer.

But seriously, I assume that as long as the couple do not have pedigree collapse in three generations (shown in the family tree, next to the dynasty tree), it should be perfectly safe.

I married a daughter of a brother once (was a second wife). One out of 8 kids or so ended up inbred, and it was a girl so meh.

Of course I never did serially intermarry. By the point where I started intermarrying I had some 10 kings of my dynasty to pick from, anyway.

The worse I have seen is if you and your child of an opposite have the trait lustful. It may have been a bug, but my ruler had an event were he though his daughter fancied him hmy: Unfortunately I couldn't pick another option, so their inbred child was born.

Same here.

The benefits of marrying your two genius kids outweigh the risks... so long as you don't do it all the time (I think). Especially now when it's easier to get kids with 2+ positive congenital traits.
