Is the death chance for republics the same as monarchies?

I have been having problems getting a leader through the full 3 year term and the leaders are on average 50ish. Its kind of odd that they keep dying so often.

That's normal. You cycle leaders recovering RT while waiting on a young and promising one. Then you stick to him for 40 years bathing in unadulterated wealth of mana. Then the cycle begins anew.
