all those are just confirmation bias. Here's a couple of screenshots from my more recent games to to show what I mean:

And in none of these have I really bothered with them at all expect I took some things in the later half of the game during the Persia file.

In about 60/70% of my games they either fail to form the Commonwealth or just get utterly wrecked by their surrounding enemies. Also: the thing is that being surrounded by both Russia, Austria and Ottomans, the commonwealth has to be strong to survive or else they'll die not before too long. It's so easy that Austria or someone else starts beating at them and then the others declare war once they notice their weakness.

If historical events that actually occurred (such as Muscovy taking Smolensk in the early 1500s) cannot occur in game then there is something wrong with the game.

There are a lot of worse things wrong with the game. It may be that real PLC was just unlucky and a valid simulation would see it survive in most instances.

The overpowering of PLC is the prime reason for a weaker Russia in game.

Possibly. Russia is OK for humans, but for AI it seems difficult. You rarely see it do nearly as well as real Russia, but then again maybe the real Russia was just lucky. :)

Here is the scary Commonwealth in my most recent game.

I think that their bonuses in their NI's and Idea Group choices creates an OP faction. It has been stated that they have about the 3rd best militaristic bonuses with bonuses that effectively negate both the tech group and stability modifiers. That would help keep them from forming. Also I stated I play with "lucky nations" off to give some randomnness to the game, but the strong nations seem to survive quite easily without their "enhancements" except AI Muscovy>Russia.

Real PLC misstepped in the 17th century by reducing local autonomy in all of its Ruthenian-cultured provinces at once and then sending missionaries :)

Nope. Not enough to give 10% administrative, diplomacy and military bônus.

For free.

And even if they are OPM and you have 100 provinces.

Try harder.

And this is simply anecdotal with n=2

Commonwealth is strong, but this is fine I think. Poland/Lithuania is OP though; it starts by far as the strongest "country", literally no one can stop them. It used to be that OE would easily solo them (I used OE to sit back and watch how the PU would broke with negative prestige many times in old patches...), but now even OE and allies get easily stomped. It would take a serious blobbing from either Muscovy or OE to get a chance against Poland/Lithuania.

I only see them fail when they DOW Bohemia; then they need to fight both Bohemian's allies and Austria's so that's like half of Europe and then good bye PU.

Since when is Lithuania lucky? I thought Poland was lucky.
Poland is Lucky.

Lithuania has a decent chance of being Lucky if a human is playing one of the historic lucky nations, because it is a large European country in a low-penalty tech group.
