I too would like to see a fix for this, ideally in a small supplemental patch.

The general tendency of modernization in this period is towards centralization, and many events (both random and historical) are designed with this in mind. If these events actually produce the opposite of their intended effects, then the game's realism gets out of whack pretty quickly.

Except that this would be in the very code that gets the Securom copy protection slapped on it, and thus performing such a quick fix would cost money. And we are not talking 10$ here.

Bah! get rid of the copy protection.
Pirates will hack it anyway and most of the time it just inconvienences legit buyers or worse yet, makes it unplayable.

Lazy man here. ;)

I stayed out of the whole Ozi 1.05 mess and missed the 'Centralisation Bug' discussed here. Anyone care to enlighten me, or will I be forced to look through the mess of ozi bitching threads? :D

Again, basically, the slider is fine. All other effects work as intended, and in the correct orientation. The only flaw is with production efficiency, that is, it's reversed from the old and intended effect. As you become more decentralized, your production income will rise. This does not, however, in most cases offset the advantage of being centralized (lower tech cost), but it certainly brings about a closer parity, and I think especially for multiplayer, decentralization is now a must. All this changes in 1.06, though, and I'll be very thankful for it. I don't like exploiting the game like this, but since my MP opponents will surely do it . . . . so must I.

I also brought up the issue in another thread but since this seems to be the right one...

I've understood that unfortunately there's nothing we can do about the centralization bug. I'm not sure whether I'm going to use the 1.05 patch at all because of this. I think Paradox should have delayed the patch release because of this, the problem was found a week and a half ago already (when people were experimenting with the Ozisoft release).

Now I'm still waiting for a quick fix... I know that releasing patches is expensive because of these copy protection routines but we all know that most probably we have to wait a *long* time for the next patch (if there will be one) to arrive.

We all know also that software pirates can crack copy protections and alter the executable, wouldn't it be possible for Paradox to just fix this one thing in the exe file while preserving the current copy protection as it is?

And as I said in another thread, well, I agree with you it's a pain in the ass problem that will slightly diminish my gaming experience over the next few months. But damn, the other fixes in 1.05 do outweigh this bug. 1.05 is really a great patch. I'll be using it in all my SP & MP games.

While possible, it is probably not allowed by their contract since it is usually the distributor that gets to slam on the copy protection. And breach of contract is not the way to go. Not if you value your money, that is.
