Changes between what's in the DDs and what's in the final product happens all the time, we couldn't do them if they were going to constrain us months later.

We should've made a statement about it being cut though, sorry about that.

Just wanted to say that it is (as always) great to see that Paradox can admit a mistake and apologise for it. Hardly anything is more annoying than people/companies trying to pretend like a mistake is not a mistake, and on the contrary, it is hard to stay annoyed at someone who apologises frankly.

Please keep on interacting with your community like this, it is very much appreciated!

I don't. 1.15 is supposed to be bug fixes and so I'd rather they're focussed on that instead of writing lots of scripts for new events that will inevitably have some bugs that slip through. Save the new stuff for the free features in 1.16.

i thought we all wanted 1.15 to be about AI improvements  (and bug fixes of course, always more bug fixes, that's a given)

So basically a half-baked product was released because the flavor was cut. Seriously..?

One small part of Estates was cut. Conversely, we have more events and interactions than was originally planned, which is the main reason we didn't have time for Call Diet. It was decided that more core flavor was important than one super fleshed out interaction for one estate.

Thanks for the clairifaction, Wiz! I really like The Cossacks but from one of your comments in this thread I got the (false) impression that too much flavor was cut. Glad to hear that this is not the case!

Lack of time should not be an excuse. If you put yourself to a date, you either finish what you promised by that date, or you push the date back. This is why I don't support announcing a release date for something until you know for a fact you've perfected it. The developers, while excellent (I very much enjoy the expansion,) should not publish release dates until the expansions or patches are ready to be released. Release dates cause rushing and put you to the clock, something that shouldn't be done when perfecting a something like that.

It sound to me that all that was really left out was some event that would make you press a button to screw yourself one way or another. Instead they just slapped a prestige cost onto the action itself (which is probably the average of what the event would do) and called it a day. I don't think we're missing some huge thing here.

Ok i'm usually the last person to get angry at paradox, but i have to say that is unacceptable, if you couldn't make it in time then don't release it, especially when the missing features have been in the dev diaries for the dlc, and therefor used as marketing. Dev diaries are a marketing tool to promote hype for the new dlc and to increase sales upon release, the things that are in them are expected to be in the product we buy. At the very least you could have added a disclaimer to that section of the dev diary visibly informing us of this before the actual release

Must say I wholeheartedly disagree. The Dev Diaries are one of the extremely few opportunities gamers get to actually get some insight in the development process, and sometimes even to get to weigh in on concerns. Being upset when features don't make it into the game or are changed before release, are the quickest way to make Paradox stop the dev diaries altogether. Paradox has never made claims that dev diaries are guarantees that things will be in the patch. Even if they did add a disclaimer, you'd probably still be upset for the exact same reason. People being upset for reasons as silly as this is the exact reason the absolute majority of devs give almost no insight into the development directly from the devs. Instead, what we get are vague suggestions that can be interpreted in a thousand different ways, specifically designed to make you buy the DLC without really having any idea what's in it. Whould you prefer that, over the current dev diaries? Because that's what you'd get.

@Wiz , you know one could always crowdsource events through the community. It might be a headache to balance/police but despite the vocal few, there is generally great goodwill in this community to improve the game.

Quite often you see modders and players post fixed events/decisions in the bug forum. Might be a nice touch to engage the community who have thousands of more hours over any single person. :p

Isn't that just modding? Can't see them wanting to crowdsource events. They might ask selected modders to help them (as they did with the massive map changes in Art of War) but that's very different to crowdsourcing, especially when the game is already so moddable for people who want that.

Paradox has never made claims that dev diaries are guarantees that things will be in the patch

Oh really?

Hello and welcome to another development diary for EU4. Today we'll be talking about some changes to regions and map graphics that is coming in the 1.14 patch.

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another development diary for Europa Universalis 4. This marks the first of the dev diaries that will be discussing features from the upcoming but unannounced expansion

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another development diary for Europa Universalis 4. Today's dev diary will be about two of the new features coming in the (as yet unannounced) expansion that we're working on, as well as a few additional goodies coming in the patch

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another development diary for Europa Universalis 4. Today we'll be talking about another major feature for The Cossacks expansion

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another development diary for Europa Universalis 4. Today's topic is a couple of smaller features in The Cossacks expansion

Hello everyone and welcome back to yet another development diary for Europa Universalis 4. Today's topic is once again a few more new features in The Cossacks

Vakz, literally every single dev diary on this site starts like this: "Hi, welcome back, this is another dev diary for [insert game], today we will talk about [insert feature/s] which will be a part of [insert patch/dlc]" at no point is there a "maybe" or "might be in" or "could get scraped" and i'm not gonna get into how important semantics are in marketing. But until told otherwise by paradox i'm going to assume that the features being shown in the dev diaries (which are being used for marketing purposes, let's be honest paradox games are a niche business and that's why the dev diaries work so well as marketing, because we are all(at least the vast majority) occasionally here on the forum anyway, ensuring a good pre-release exposure to the vast majority of potential customers) are in the pathc/dlc on release.

Even if they did add a disclaimer, you'd probably still be upset for the exact same reason

No, i wouldn't. the only reason i'm disappointed (not mad lol) is because they didn't communicate this change before they sold us the product, and maybe you don't care about that, that's fine, but i do and from the look of the response i got on this thread, i'd argue i'm not the only one

In the general case, you can't know that.

Not "it's too expensive to know that", not "it's too hard to know that", you can't know that.

Oh really?

No, i wouldn't. the only reason i'm disappointed (not mad lol) is because they didn't communicate this change before they sold us the product, and maybe you don't care about that, that's fine, but i do and from the look of the response i got on this thread, i'd argue i'm not the only one
DDs are just DD. You can't expect the things were introduced at DD will always be at the product. What should be at the game is what written at product information. It is Common Sense.

One small part of Estates was cut. Conversely, we have more events and interactions than was originally planned, which is the main reason we didn't have time for Call Diet. It was decided that more core flavor was important than one super fleshed out interaction for one estate.

Hey Wiz, quick question that is somewhat related to the topic at hand: Might there be ways for the Parliamentary System and the Estates system to interact more in the future? I think that there is some overlap in what they represent to some degree, and some great potential for some interaction between the two mechanics, such as any province assigned to an estate automatically having a seat in Parliament (this might require replacing the idea of removing the noble estate). For example, if you're France, your parliament could be the Estates General, and any province assigned to the Nobles or Clergy would have additional weight in their votes, while those assigned to the Bourgeois would have less weight (until some rabble-rousers change things around).
