Is the BJ-1 the only starter mech you can get in the campaign?

If it is in Would not mind a thunderbolt 5SE. If JJ are needed for the starter mission.

It's in the Beta v2 files, though wasn't activated except by modifications. A Thud, as a heavy, is probably too big to start you with. I'd stick with a Medium or high-weight Light like a Panther or Jenner.

At 65 tons It's probably at the top end of an "acceptable" starter. Personally I'd rather go with a 50-55-60 tonner.

Considering your starting mission . . .

. . . has you escorted by a seasoned vet in a Centurion CN9-A and your liege-lady in a Kintaro KTO-18? And your outfit post-time-skip is a Vindicator VND-1R, Shadow Hawk SHD-2H, and Spider SDR-5V?

. . . getting handed a low-tonnage 'Mech like a Panther wouldn't be a problem, a Jenner might be pushing it. Just not a Cicada.

If we could choose our starting 'Mechs, mine would be a Catapult K2.

Those of you who have watched some campaign footage know why that would make our potential meeting with a certain someone particularly interesting.

IMO starting more than one 55 tonner in your lance at most is pushing it. Once you get a heavy you're at the point where you don't need to be too concerned about picking up new mech chassis because you probably also have a few mediums backing you up, and if you have multiple 50+ ton mechs as your starting force you really don't need to care about salvage until you start needing assaults because you're basically set at the get-go.

This is still a Beta build. It is still possible that their could be 1 or 2 other starting mechs. In these streams, everyone is also stuck with the Noble Birth backstory. I can see a little expansion in the character generation portion before release. I just think that they don't want to give too much away and have everyone start Meta building their characters before the game even releases.

I suppose that makes sense. I haven't actually watched the streams because I don't want TOO much of the early game stuff spoiled for me, but if everyone's locked into the "easy mode" starting backstory (though depending on if HBS made it so that there can be rivals and other such lovely feudal traditions going Nobel might mean you've got someone a lot more influential than you that hates your guts.) to make it easier for streamers who may not be able to tell a Stinger from a Wasp to get in and go without having to do too much prior research.

I believe the devs have stated on several occasions that we were going to start with the Blackjack. That was going to be the only option, but knowing HBS...... they might just do something like have different mechs based on your choices.
