Heys, this is my first post on this forum. Beginner here. So basically I've noticed something about tanistry in my game that makes it ridiculously strong. Basiclally, I make sure no one in my dynasty have any land above barony, except my chosen successor who has all the land I cannot fit into my own demesne. Then, anytime my vassals prefer some unlanded person in my dynasty over my preferred successor, I give that person a barony which immediately disqualifies him from inheriting my titles. I've no idea why this happens but I suspect that because barons cannot vote in kingdom level titles that they also cannot inherit them? The wiki did not mention anything about this so I'm wondering if this is working as intended. Because combined with the Holy war cb my Waldesian faith gives me, and how easy it is for me to therefore get barony titles, it is ridiculously easy to just give a barony to dynasty members I do not want to inherit my throne until only my chosen successor is left. Is this working as intended or is this a bug? Because if this is not a bug, it sounds ridiculously powerful, so why do people still not like tanistry?

I prefer Tanistry over Eldership, because they people never vote for the imbecile out of spite. AI Eldership realms will always, always eventually elect the imbecile.

Barons should be viable candidates for Tanistry, though. However, in general, electors will prefer to choose either the leader's choice, or an unlanded member of the dynasty. Barons are landed, so they become less desirable candidates. When the choice is between landed candidates, then sure, the ruler's choice is probably preferred.

I prefer Eldership over Tanistry, because it's easier to keep the succession within your direct family, you can nominate any of your dynasty members and the elders will always vote for your choice is they are extatic, but, if they aren't, it's easy to appease them.

The only thing that I don't like about Eldership is that if your direct vassals are your kinmen their titles can be inherited by any other kinmen, which might lead to bordergore and facilitates kinslaying.
