Is sunny Ottomans supposed to help the emperor in league wars? Then what to do?

So there I was minding my own business as an enlighten and reformed Prussia. I decided it might be time to mind the Austria emperor business as well seeing as he had land I rightfully considered mine. So you can see I was a bit confused when I went to declare war and it claimed the sunny Ottomans would join the war:

Urtk3Ax.jpg

I looked in to the matter, and hadn't allied Austria or joined the coalition. So I reread everything I was mighty surprised when I found out it had joined the Catholic leauge!!!

Gvgso1J.jpg

Okay I thought maybe it also heard how powerful an Orthodox Ottoman can be and therefore had converted, but no The Ottomans was still sunni

jjlbRZ5.jpg

soooo..... Is that normal and supposed to happened or is it a bug or know error?

I wanted to start the war against Austria because they joined the coallition against me, and in 2 years Russia will come out of a peace treaty and likely join the coallition as well. That would put a seriously constrain on my further expansion.
Any suggestion to get out of this predicament would be highly appreciated. My current diplomatic situation is shown below:

Also this is my first game with the leagues. Who can initiate a league war, only the two leaders or any member?

With leagues only the leader against the emperor can declare war. Also im just curious but would the ottomans be that big of a threat? You look like you should be strong enough to handle them easily. Also if you declare war on Russia as soon as the truce runs out it wont be able to join the coalition

I know, but in the first picture it looks like a lot of (or all) members of the Catholic League are prepared to enter in the war against him. So it might be a bug.

Nations outside the HRE can join either League (without regard to their religion). This is to allow France to back Brandenburg as say the leader of the Protestant League if it feels that Austria is growing too powerful and wants to destabilize the HRE. In your game the Ottomans are getting scared of you and decided to back Austria and the other Catholics.

I see the GB, France, Prussia (you) and Sweden are all together in the Protestant League. The Sunni Muslim Ottomans are backing the Catholics so as not to be next on your list of religions to crush.

The Ottomans joining the Catholic league? That's intriguing.

Clearly they think you're more of a problem than Austria is.

Thanks for the fast replies. Easy thing first, "Sunny" is sadly not a joke, but a mind slip, it even took me 10 sec to see the problem. I will see if I can fix it sorry. Regarding take out the Ottomans maybe I could, but they are quite strong manpower wise and has the largest army, with Austria coming in as number two. So I would like to split it up. Secondly it would also involve the other league members, like Spain, so it might end up to big a mouthful for me this time around. I might try to leave the protestant league or maybe attack the other coalition member Mainz. Or declare war on Russia day one out of peace. But is the Ottomans supposed to be in the league in the first place?

Yes. Any country with its capital in Europe can (and will, if the circumstances are "right") join the Leagues - including not only the Ottomans, but also Crimea, GH, and Kazan if they're still alive.

That does happen from time to time. In the game I'm playing right now as Spain, the Ottomans are in the Protestant League.

As AlbTroll said before, nations outside the HRE can join the Leagues, thus simulating the 30 Years War to some extent. Usually, nations centered in Europe are the ones that join the leagues, and they can be from any religious group.

The Ottomans surely didnt join Protestant side because it doesnt have Austria asrival but you... If they had neither rivals in in HRE they would probaaby just join protestant because they see the emperor as a rival no matter what whenit comes to considering the leagues.Though I'm not sure how such a big Austria isnt rivalled by the ottomans.

Russia looks pretty respectable, and we can't see into Asia in those screenies to tell whether there's a strong blob in Iran.

Yes Ottomans can join League.

Not that I´d care, as they usually fall behind in tech and thus are pretty laughable. If you put something like Offensive on your Prússia there is zero reason to care :)

Just to say aswell if you are reformed and not protestant you want the religious wars to end in a draw or you cant become emperor. So maybe just declare war and stall for a white peace. Then you could attack russia and others easily because a lot of the coalition members would be in a truce

Thanks for all the advice. I don't know if you are interested but I thought it rude not to give you an update.
I decided to go for attacking Russia when the peace ran out, but before they could join the coalition. It worked perfectly I smashed their forces and started sieging Russia down. Then about 6 month into the war, England started the league war, so the decision is out of my hands. Luckily most of the league fighting goes on at the Austria and France border as well as the Northen Italy region, so I haven't yet committed any forces to that conflict. I am easily able to handle the Ottoman and Russia forces, actually a lot easier than I thought.
So if I understand your post and the wiki correct I should stall the league war until "Peace of Westphalia-esque treaty" triggers, right?

The curious thing is not that they became involved (because that makes sense - pretty much everyone with a stake in Europe did, IRL); but that they joined Austria's side, which obviously shouldn't happen in this situation - Austrian emperor of considerable strength and with a lot of land in the Ottoman's sphere of influence.
