Is Russia the warmonger hell?

I have never played Russia in MP yet but, it looks as she has a lot of advantages. In theory it seems impossible to defeat the Rodina (with Siberia): she has just too many provinces,is far from the powerhouses of Western Europe , has a huge manpower and army, good income.... and of course General Winter. Also in theory, since she has very low stability cost and almost all of her provinces are cores, a Russian player could just wage a defensive war an wait to see his enemy torn apart by war exhaustion.

So, is this theory right? Is it wrong? Has somebody tried it?
Has somebody sucess in invading Russia?

Looking for answers Laex? Fearing our russian player in MP?
Dont worry its not me. :D
Concerning your question i can assure you that russia played by a human player is unbeatable....at least in his own territory.
Considering huge manpower, almost winter......
In my SP as austria....it was more or less a cakewalk trough russia......during summertimes i besieged the fortresses and in winter or better before winter times i assaulted. I covered as much provinces as possible to avoid counterattacks. But unfortunately AI is not human.
For our MP i m happy to see Sweden and the Ottomans in the east too. ;)

However, Russia is Orthodox tech and not particularly rich, so a determined and strong latin tech enemy might succeed in winning enough battles and conquering enough bordering provinces to begin forcing stability hits.

But yes, Russia is the defensive WE-exploiting MP-player's paradise :)

Russia isn't so tough, really. Often by midgame (Or around the time when Russia will even be able to *be* a threat to anyone else) they will often be an entire tech group behind.

As Austria, the Ottoman Empire and as France (!) I have successfully invaded and brought Russia to its knees. This is mostly because they have a bunch of provinces that are ussually easily taken allowing me to force a quick peace if I actually need to.

The reason why the Russians are NOT very good at warmongering, is simply because half of the power that a nation holds is A) Where they can project their might and B) When. This makes nations like the Ottomans, Austrians, Spanish and French very tough. Of course, having multiple avenues of attack can be bad for a poor player, so I would say that Russia might be better for a relatively weaker player as opposed to Austria.

Just depends.

Russia is extraordinarily powerful in its own theater, but outside its power quickly declines. One also has to wait for the CB shields to come, which can be irritating for the impatient. If Russia follows the traditional strategy of attempting to maximize trade and infrastructure, she may find herself two or three CRT tables behing the dedicated landtech researcher, so watch out for this, especially as you will likely receive no neighbor bonus due to the tech group.

It seems a very good tactic, using stability hits :D :D
just i don´t want to find a player who retreat his big army to Semipalatinsk or the like, and forces me to hunt him there.
Well, in fact the name of the thread should have been Russia the hell of the warmonger, because warmongers could been trapped in the infinite spaces of the Mother Russia. Not bad ;)
I understand what you say about her problems to project power beyond the borders; my concern is her power inside. However I feel more comfortable when players let Poland alive.

hmm, i was wondering aleady why such a lot of players do not allow players to take russia before a certain date (if ever). After reading this thread I still don`t have any idea... ;)
(that was quite a pointless remark i guess)

not if u play minors but then still most of the players reject the fact that moscovy (or every other russian state for the matter) IS a minor in 1419 ;). (and of course some players could take the brave but fooly decision to play poland...)
Btw, what is the interaction with the ottomans then? It takes them a few decennia as well to get past the balkan and hungary without being flooded by BB-wars early in game....

In MP, a good Ottomans player can have completely annexed Mamelukes, along with all of the Greek and Turkish minors by 1430. I've done it, and seen it done by 1425 which is exceptional and relys alot on the early stability increasing events that the Turks get. Once they have all of their 1419 CB shields, the Turkish player can do whatever they want.

another reason for Russia not being introduced into the game until later on is because they turn Soviet sized and that isn't good for anyone
hmm, but Spain and the other colonial nations can acquire even moe territory long before Rusia even starts to think about expansion... ;)

Well, it still doesn`t make them "interact" with the rest of the world like france or spain ;) there are still those pesky hungarians who for some reason need to have 4 religions at the time ;) But in my opinion the Ottomans need Hungary to have really something to bring in in European politics (I have the feeling that Austria is otherwise always in advantage)

Spain has some nasty events as time goes on and if they don't get their infrastructure up there high enough they are screwed ~ so they need a human to run them from the start so they don't completely screw up later.

and the ottomans and russians have not? imo the ottomans have relatively the worst events of all the countries in game....
