Is performance still an issue for 1.8?

I just wanted to know if the game still runs slowly for the patch 1.8 game WITHOUT the AoW expansion. (which I don't yet have)

The last time I played the game, the speed was down considerably after 2-3 years.

Yeah, speed is slower for me but that's with no mods installed. I usually have mods that make the map flat and get rid of the ugly bumpiness and clouds which help performance enough to be playable but none of them are updated yet

From what I've read, having the expansion or not makes no difference, just whether or not your running patch 1.8.

Some people claim to have taken massive performance hits even with high end rigs, with performance getting worse the later the game goes. Some other people (including me) haven't had much of a performance hit, even without high end rigs.

If you played the game with 1.8 ... like... 2 days ago... there is no patch for it yet... in 2 days

Try the hotfix (MP, autosaves)

And check back when they release a beta fix (1.8.0.1).... who knows, maybe Monday?

I think there is a slight performance drop, but I barely notice it. I wish I had timed how long one month took to pass before the expansion came out.

For all practical purposes, there is not. If you dont have the expansion, the AI still has to run all its calculations, the new provinces are still there, etc. There are some locked features but they shouldnt impact performance per se.

I used to be able to run the game incredibly well, but it has become pretty much unplayable for me. It's taken several hours to play 30-40 years at 5 speed.

I feel the same way. I actually think I have a performance boost since the game used to slow down after a while for me and doesn't now.

This is what's so strange. For the majority of people (on the forum at least), people are having performance problems. For those that aren't, they're actually reporting an increase in performance.

Yes, same symptoms. Hope fix this and lot of bugs to short time.

I hope they fix this soon, the game is practically unplayable for me right now, the constant stuttering is frustrating.

Some of us are having a major issue where the game speed is 2-3+ times slower. Others are noting similar or even faster speeds. These are incongruent results and should be interpreted as a tech support issue...whether you have it is a valid question.

Performance is slower than 1.7.3, but about the same as a few patches before that.

The one exception I noted was the 30-on-30 coalition bloodbath. My monster machine buckled so bad I actually gave up and read forums all day. Then tonight I soldiered through until the peace of Westphalia hit...and running like a champ again.

I get about the same speed on speed 5 as i did with speed 4 before. But my cpu is 7 years old (q9550).

I can say performance improved by %25 with Art of War DLC. But still slow and choppy. So, to OP "YES"!

You can actually update at least some of them yourself. Go to Users/hp(etc)/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/mod, then open the desciption file and add supported_version="1.8"

I've done that with both the Better Fog of War and the Nonreflective Water mods and they work fine, speeding up the game at the same time.

EDIT: In fact, it appears that the author has updated Better Fog of War now.
