Muslim is reduced to 10%-15% too as far as I remember in the beta build in question. I'm not 100% sure, might have been 15% for defensive too. And to be honest, republics could really use a bit of an advantage.

IMO, both ideas are relatively well balanced and on the same level. It is the Forced march that is overpowered. Paradox should add some more negative effects to your stack while you use it. Like 10% attrition of something.

So, you are forced to disable it on 29th of every month and reenable it every 1st? 10% is a retardedly high amount that would turn Forced March into Forced Suicide.

However, the idea of adding something like 1% attrition could actually be a sensible change to it. But then again it would just promote getting Defensive instead :p

Well, if they are nerfing defensive by cutting the morale bonus they *should* also nerf something in offensive. As it stands the two are very well balanced against each other overall. With the nerf it becomes fairly solidly offensive > defensive.

While force marching you cannot resupply, so that's already a huge issue in foreign lands. I already mastered the "don't march around the end of the calendar month" method. But yes, Forced March is a whole new level of warfare that only nations with fully unlocked Offensive can play.

Forced March allows resupply; what it doesn't allow is morale recovery. Personally I think the morale thing is a sufficient counterbalance. YMMV.

The thing about defensive is that it's actually one of the best offensive idea groups. They could make morale 10% on enemy turf and the full 25% on home turf, similar to how hordes get a bonus on their lands.

For this to be true they need to break gaming the month end (I'm assuming they haven't already).

If you're chasing a shattered army (for example), you can't afford to stop at the end of the month and then resume your move orders when the calendar clicks over. (You cannot turn Forced March on mid-move.)

The design isn't explicitly to punish players for using Forced March; the design merely adds appropriate risk when you're trying to press an advantage using an army with damaged morale. Then there's the MP cost, which may not be a big deal for, say, most any player-driven European power beyond a certain tech level, but it is something.

Change the MP cost to be 1 per regiment per province, then we'll see if it's overpowered.

I do think it would be great if attrition, morale recovery, etc. were on, say, a weekly schedule rather than a monthly one. Since I don't generally notice any lag at the beginning of the month (unless autosaving), I don't really see why it wouldn't be an improvement.

Am I the only person who's bothered by the random events that come with "Defensive"? The "choose between -50 prestige or -25 army tradition" event and the "congrats, you lose 10 army tradition because..." event? I'm at the point where I won't take Defensive again, ever, because these events are so horrible. What am I missing here?

The EU series has always represented non-Europeans as being about as strong as they historically were in the period covered by "Victoria" from 1500 on.
