Friend of mine was playing with me and I told him to not bother but he is stubborn and played like 5 times with the same result.

Also, what is the deal with tech level 0 in all the pagan provinces (and the Ethiopian areas), even when they're bordering tech rich areas? It makes no sense. We can't farm, but if you walk a couple miles over that way then they're on three field system.

From what i gathered its doable if you start at a later starting date, cant remember wich one exactly, but it should be easy to spot while going through the years as its supposed to be when the muslims are totaly split up.

I'm assuming they gave all Pagans 0 tech to help them fail every time.

and IIRC the start date is 1088. But i'm probably wrong.

Yes, but quite hard in 1066. I still did it once, a few patches ago.

But if you start right after the Fatimids break up, which is still fairly early on, then you're in a solid position to dominate after a war or two.

it is not impossible but you usually need a lot of luck and the right marriages ,the right assassinations, the right plots etc. The odds are probably like 1 in 20 games will succeed or maybe even worse.

Duke of Axum is an easier start because you can swear fealty to anyone. Then switch to Catholic and get Holy Orders. Even with 1.07 Axum is probably tough since you the religions aren't heretic anymore.

Before 1.07 I would convert back to Orthodox holy war the orthodox heresies, swear fealty to pope, convert to catholic, get holy orders and destroy Egypt.

Been playing it from 1066 with LOR and the Islam DLC installed. Thanks guys, I'll let my buddy know.

The pagan territory at 0 kind of pisses me off though. Especially in Mali. They probably just made a quick algorithm to assign province values when they first made the game, but it really doesn't make any sense. I'll let my buddy know to start at ~1088 next time.
